Thanks for those suggestions - I added some to my to read shelf on Goodreads!

I am currently reading Dream Lover by Elizabeth Berg. I've read a number of her novels and have liked most even loved a few, but I'm not enjoying this as much. It's a historical novel about a real figure (author George Sand), and so Berg's writing feels more constrained in this one - although it's written in the first person, it feels more like a biography than a novel.

Does anyone love any of those authors? I'm looking for stand-alone books, NOT part of a series (unless it's a limited 2-3 book series max).
Another Louise Erdrich fan. But of the authors on this list, I love Emily Henry. She started with YA, but now writes adult romance (her first was a huge hit called Beach Read).

I should add that I’m a voracious reader, but have only lurked here. :-)

Welcome to posting in the reading thread! I checked for Emily Henry books at my library and found some already on my wish list there. I'll definitely try one of them soon.

I'm reading The Ride of Her Life by Elizabeth Letts, the true story of a woman in the 1950s who rode her horse across the country, from northern Maine to California. I am really enjoying it. And I'm reading Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham, a YA book about the attacks on the black community in Tulsa in the 1920s.

I second on Emily Henry. I enjoyed Beach Read, People We Meet on Vacation and Book Lovers. I'm looking forward to reading Happy Place.

I listened to T. Kingfisher's new horror release A House With Good Bones this weekend and it's not my favorite from her, though definitely creepy. The main character was a little too "wisecracky," and the narration by Mary Robinette Kowal was disappointing.

Another spooky library hold for Lone Women by Victor LaValle came in the same day (print version), so starting that today.

I had five library requests come in at once, and of course they are all due back in two weeks. I have to decide which one or two to read:

The Sweet Spot
The Messy Lives of Book People
We all Want Impossible Things
Small World
Someone Else's Shoes

Has anyone read any of the above? I will likely read "Someone Else's Shoes" by JoJo Moyes first.

Thanks!
Sherry

I’ve read a few kindle unlimited flops recently, but one I enjoyed:
Sangu Mandanna — The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches
Cozy and sweet. A little predictable, but I liked it.

Then I reread The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society. (Um…for like the 5th time.)

I was at the library yesterday and picked up three random books - wait I have to check my library account to remember what they are!

Chestnut Street by Maeve Binchy (I thought I might have read this before but didn't look familiar and no record of it, so we'll see!)

Fitness Junkie by Lucy Sykes (I had put this in TRL way back when; hopefully I didn't already read this one!)

The Islanders by Meg Mitchell Moore (had another book by her on my list to try but library didn't have, so though I'd go with this one)
