To stay positive I am limiting the news coverage (including social media), reading my Bible, listening to sermons and meditating on/memorizing Bible verses that deal with anxiety and peace, having conference calls with my friends to pray together since we can't meet in person right now, walking my dog, spending extra time with DH watching uplifting TV/movies and helping others in need (carefully and with wisdom to limit any exposure to others).

Louise, so sorry about your kitty!!

I think it's sad that people are afraid to get together. My gosh, it's a cold/flu virus. Unless you are old and have compromised immune system, you won't die. This is tanking our businesses and it's wrong. I think the elderly, cancer patients (like my own mom)and other illnesses should stay at home away from everyone, but we are fit and healthy, we can handle it. Everyone needs to chill. I would like to be able to find groceries for a meal I want to make. Jeesh!! You can't lock yourself away forever. I think in a couple weeks people will be done with it. I know I sound like a broken record, but we need to get back to living. At work, I can't even talk to customers through a door with plexi glass. I have voiced my opinion on that too. The funny thing is, I think everyone I work with feels the same way. It's going to far. We are all kind of joking about it.

It's good that you have this optimism, but as it's been said previously, it's not just a cold/flu virus. If it was just the cold/flu virus I don't think the reaction would be this high. People know how to handle that. They don't know how to handle this. I think that's why there is an overabundance of caution. I've never seen anything like it.

It’s not just the elderly who are dying from this - there are younger people getting very sick - and dying - from this.

Well, a year from now we'll see if your attitude is correct. You can wag your finger at us all and say, "I told you so!"

Until then, smokers, folks with lung or heart issues, those with immune disorders and even healthy seniors would be wise to err on the side of caution.

I'm sorry my concern for my life is inconvenient for you.

Agreed!!!!!

Age is not the only factor:

Marki, the people joking with you about it (which I don't understand at all!) could have relatives and friends that end up getting sick. I don't see how a pandemic is funny.

This healthy senior is erring on the side of caution. I've been limiting contact with others as much as possible and will continue to do so. After all, even I could be a carrier without knowing it!

I've been adding a 1- or 2-mile outdoor walk to my usual daily workout. And I've been continuing my volunteer work for a local nonprofit by working on enewsletters and finding relevant information and other good stuff to share on social media.

I really, really miss hanging out with my BFF, but she's older than I am, and we both know it's better not to get together right now. Thanks to her good judgment, we decided not to go to a gathering in another city last week — the metro area that now has the largest number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

I also think an issue with this virus is that if everyone gets it at the same time the medical facilities won't be able to handle it. Isn't that what happened in Italy? They couldn't keep up with the onslaught of stricken people needing hospital care. So social distancing is to "flatten the curve" as they say so not everyone gets sick at once. It makes a lot of sense. This is a different situation than a cold or flu since no one has ever gotten this virus before. It doesn't hurt to try and avoid a situation like Italy had.

That to me is the scary part, you can look and feel totally healthy, and yet be carrying and spreading the virus.

I've been reading, walking, and working in my yard. Got a few tomato plants in the raised bed I just started, and some herbs, and planted 25 gladiola bulbs yesterday! My lemon and grapefruit trees are not only blooming and smelling wonderful, but are loaded with tiny fruit.

Good for you! I'm starting to get the gardening itch. I was going to do some yard cleanup, but it's raining and will be for most of the weekend. I need to repair one of our raised beds, so I'll try to tackle that when it is dry out. I'm looking forward to planting veggies, but it is way too early here in Chicago.
