Barefoot and on the Mat - October, 2021 - Pumpkin Spice Edition!

I didn’t see our October check-in up, so here goes.

This check-in is for ANYONE and EVERYONE who enjoys ANY type of barefoot workouts, including yoga, Pilates, Classical Stretch/Essentrics, kickboxing, kettlebells, barefoot cardio, whatever - we welcome all! We are a friendly group of diverse ages and backgrounds. Post your workouts or not, we don't care...we'd love to have you join us in any capacity!

October’s the month when the smallest breeze
Gives us a shower of autumn leaves
Bonfires and pumpkins, leaves sailing down --
October is red, and golden and brown

(Kindergarten poem, author unknown)

Here's how I wrapped up September:

Happy October!

This is one of my favorite months, along with May. Goodbye humidity, hello Pumpkin Spice! Yesterday featured:

~ YWK Guided Morning Meditation, Morning Yin Yoga Full Body Stretch, plus Mantra Meditation
~ Mirabai Holland Moving Free Cardio level 1
~ Winsor Flat Abs Pilates, Definition
~ 6,121 steps

The Winsor was killer - I could only stretch for the last five minutes, way too advanced - boomerang, leg pulldown, etc. Dang Mari.

Pam, I'm so sorry to see the bad news about your BIL. I hate to think someone who stays fit and active at age 75 suffered an injury. Which Stephen King are you reading?

I have to skedaddle too - will visit later.

Deep Stretch Yin Yoga (Legs & Hips)

Pat, thank you for starting our October month for us!

Pam, you are a sweet sister to drive your BIL and sister back home. I'm sure they appreciated it. I'm sending healing thoughts to your BIL.

Beth, I see that there are 3 Herbal Essences Tea Tree shampoos. One is Clarifying Tea Tree; another is Clarifying Tea Tree & Jasmine and another is Clarifying Tea Tree & Orange Blossom. Which one of those is the one you like?

Paine, hmm...I think the tea tree and jasmine, but now I have to check when I get home! One of the reasons I like it is because it has a nice fresh scent, not like tea tree at all. I've only used it a couple of times b/c I'm trying to finish up my old shampoo.

Pat, thanks for the new month reminder! My boss mentioned it in our meeting this morning, which reminded me to change my calendar.

Happy October, Happy Friday, and TGIF!

Hi!

Pat58: Thanks for starting us off this month. Love the Pumpkin Spice title! I love October, too.

No workout today since I take Fridays off due to my schedule. However, I did go out and get my flu shot.

Paine: I'm pretty sure I still have that Yin Yoga DVD -- now you've got me curious to try out the Legs & Hips section.

Waving to all!

Hello all!

Pat - Thank you for starting us off and for the poem. I like this time of year, when the trees are changing colour.

I seem to have a sweet spot of 20 minute workouts these days:
- Body Groove Feel Good Party - great music. I didn't do the last track.
- Ellen B Ballet Sculpt with Weights
- MFML Pilates Shoulder Stability & Neck Relaxation
- MFML Waiting for the Kettle to Boil - 5 minutes
- Yoga-Inspired Full Body Stretch (YT). No commentary at all. I quite enjoyed how relaxing this felt and loved the music.

Pam - I'm so sorry to hear about your BIL. Sending him best wishes for a speedy recovery. We've turned on our heating too over the past two days. It feels quite chilly in the mornings now.

Paine - When I was in Arizona last year, I found a hair conditioner in a health shop, which I thought was pretty good for my thick dry hair that's prone to frizz. It's called Earth Science Avocado and Olive Oil. You probably wouldn't want three but thought you may want to read the reviews. Some people don't like the smell but I didn't mind it.

Sandra - Hope you don't suffer any side effects from the flu shot. I'm supposed to get a booster Covid shot along with the flu shot sometime soon.

Waves Beth. Hope you manage to have the weekend off Cyana.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hello mat mavens!

Thanks everyone for your kind words & well wishes for my BIL. I talked to him this morning and he’s doing okay.

I have also let my hair go grey during Covid. My hair is short & a silvery grey with no yellow hue like some people can get. It was always thick and a bit wavy but it’s a bit more wiry now. It’s so low maintenance with the slight wave that I rarely use a hair dryer, it just falls into place. I don’t use a lot of product as so many seem to make my scalp itchy and I’m fussy about shampoo for the same reason.

I did my PT exercises before my PT appt this morning, but otherwise this is a rest day as I had another IMS treatment. I’m relaxing on my heating pad with a cup of tea.

Pat - Thanks for starting us off, love your intro & your avatar! I haven’t done a Windsor in ages, but I remember they weren’t easy! I just finished listening to “Mr Mercedes” and earlier in Sept I listened to “The Outsider”. I am totally becoming a King fan, lol, never gravitated to his books before. I’m waiting for “Finders Keepers” from the library, love the Holly Gibney character! The actor Will Patton narrated both and he’s very good. I often have an audio book going when I’m puttering around or using my cardio equipment.

Sandra - Hope you have minimal side effects from the flu shot!

Margo - I’ll have to check out that MFML neck & shoulder Pilates practice. I’m another fan if 20 min workout segments!

ETA Waves to Paine, Cyana, Beth & anyone I missed!

Sandra, I really like all the segments in Mimi Solaire's Deep Stretch/Yin Yoga DVD but the Legs & Hips practice is the one I love the most. The first 16 minutes are stretches while on your back and the last 4 minutes are seated forward bends.
I got my flu shot 2 weeks ago and had no side effects from it other than a sore arm for a day.

Beth, I'm also not fond of the smell of tea tree but I'm willing to use if it helps the frizz.

Margot, thank you for the recommendation of Earth Science Avocado and Olive Oil conditioner--I bought one to try!

Happy Saturday everyone!

It was a wet and dreary day here today, so I caught up on some interviews from a Health Summit that's been on all week.

Today I managed to get in some short practices:
- HeathBarre Slender Me Quick
- Body Groove Yoga Fusion #1 (15min)
- Bellyfit Open & Receive (20min)
- Ekhart Yoga De-Stress Your Neck (19min)

Paine - I hope you like the hair conditioner. Fingers crossed.

Pam - I've also found a lot of hair products make my scalp itch. There was a time when Argan oil was in fashion and seemed to be in everything, which always flared up my eczema. It's good to find an author you like. I've never read of any Stephen King's books but you're tempting me to give him a go.

Waves to all. Hope your weekend is off to a good start.

Today is a rest day from formal exercise. This morning I went to 3 markets. I've been working in the kitchen doing food prep and batch cooking for the week, I changed our bedding and I'm also doing laundry. It's a busy day!

Last night, DH and I saw an interesting and well done movie called Official Secrets which is based on a true story of British Intelligence whistle-blower Katharine Gun. Keira Knightley plays the part of Katharine Gun and she does a good job acting the role.

Yesterday I got my Pfizer covid booster (I'm 65 so I was allowed to get the booster now). My arm was not even sore yesterday and it is hardly sore today. I've had no other side effects other than a slightly sore arm.
