Day 8 virgin Shiva Rea power flow yoga

This is a compilation dvd that I picked up at a thrift store for $2. I previewed a few segments and decided on Fire & Water from daily energy.

I liked it. I didn't do the arm balances, I stayed in the easier positions, It honestly reminded me of the yoga on YBB sculpt.

I'm keeping it and looking forward to trying some of the other practices on it.

Thank you!

This check-in is so much fun and such a good idea to go through our workouts we haven't done or try someone new on YouTube! Maybe the next round I'll explore more online instructors, but I have so many DVDs.

Day 7 Janis Saffell and Guillermo Gomez
Hardcore Kickbox Circuit

From my obsession with kickbox days. I haven't done this in years and forgot it all. So brand new all over again.
Guillermo and Janis switched leading. Guillermo did a fantatic job; I enjoyed his sections with form instruction. No complaints on Janis. Realistic background exercisers. yay.

54 min WO with a warm up and nice cool down. There is a Aikido Ab section that i missed so will do another time. It went pretty fast

Pluses
Use of weighted gloves helped make it challenging.
It was hard but not impossible to keep up. I sweat buckets.
Guillermo's form

Minuses
The weight sections (in between the kickbox sections) didn't do much for me. it looked like they used 3lbs. I had to quickly switch between 5 and 10 to feel it and even then there wasn't many reps. BUT it was a nice break from punching and kicking.

Definitely a keeper.
I'm a day behind posting..no time yesterday.

I'd like to jump in too! I won't really be targeting virgins or dust bunnies, just 20 different instructors that I haven't done in a while. These will be short add-ons to what I'm already doing so I may just pick and list 20 workouts and update my post as I complete them.

Alex Crockford 4 Minute Fat Burning Battle Rope Finisher Workout!, YT
Barry's Boot Camp Cindy Whitmarsh Mission Specialist Abs (12)

WWE Triple H Power Series Mobility (14)

Heather Graham 10MS Cardio Hip Hop House Party (10)
10. Kathy Smith Matrix Method Power Walk for Weight Loss Walking part 2 (13)
11. Patricia Moreno Kickbox: Core Cross Train Punches (13)
12. Jennifer Kries Pilates Target Specifics Hips (14)
13.
14.
15.
16. E. Kligerman Yoga Therapy for Back Pain SI Joint 1 (15)
17. XTrainFit J. Hendrix RipT 90 Ript Abs (15)
18. Jackie Warner Crunch-Free Xtreme Abs standing (15)
19. Crunch Sara Ivanhoe Candlelight Yoga bonus 15-Minute Energizer Workout (15)
20. WWE Stephanie McMahon Fit Series Lower Body (15)

**********************
Forgot I had some new instructors already planned in for this week so I guess I'll have a couple extras.

Day 1 (7/19) Jillian Wilkerson Motley Fitness Yoga for the Runner -Post-Run Stretch--This one was okay. I like my usual post-run yoga better but this one will be nice for a change sometimes. It was about 17 minutes long, done in voice over. Jillian Wilkerson is the woman doing the stretches but it is voiced by a man, presumably Sean Vigue who apparently created it. A VF friend gave me this years ago but it wouldn't play in my previous DVD players so this is the first time I was able to do it.

Day 2 (7/21) Shaun T Cize 8 Count Abs --I didn't get to this yesterday so moved it to today. To be honest I had no mojo to workout today after being out in the oppressive heat and humidity so I told myself to start with smthg fun. Since I love Shaun T I figured this was a surefire spark to get me going. Nope. I still love Shaun but abs on the floor isn't exactly fun to get me going and I don't like ab workouts where I feel it too much in my hip flexors and even quads. I will try it again someday but not as the first video of the day and not as a get-excited-to-workout workout. And that's it for today. I just couldn't get in the mood to do anything more. Thankfully I don't have all that many days like that.

Day 3 (7/22) Caroline Girvan 12 Min Bodyweight Hamstrings Workout, YT --Glad I did this after my run instead of before it like I had planned! I had previewed it but it was tougher than it looked!

Day 4 (7/23) Gloria Hoffman Simply Fit Board Basic Full Body Workout --Since I had never done this before I used my XCO trainer instead of dumbbells. It was a very easy workout, in my opinion.
Amy Bento 10 Minute Solution Hot Body Boot Camp Ab Assault + Better Body Stretch --I have done at least one Amy workout in the past but don't really remember. I liked her and these two workout segments had a few different moves from the usual fare and I liked them

Day 5 (7/24) Denise Austin Kickin' With Country Workout, VHS 1992) --This wasn't on my list but I've been in the mood to do it the last few days so I added it in! Still so fun and cheesy.
Bob Harper Ultimate Cardio Body Extreme Weight Loss Workout 10 Minute Glute Challenge --Holy booty Batman! This is basically 10 minutes of lunges (front, back, side, front-side-back) and then about 3 minutes of "a** burners," single leg squats, standing hamstring curls and chair pose. My glutes were really feeling it!

Day 6 7/26 Emily Welsh The Firm Ride the Wave --This was more instructional but that was okay bc I don't remember if I've used the Wave before! I liked it enough that I used it for the bodyweight exercises in my jump rope workout I did after Ride the Wave.
Leandro Carvalho Brazil Butt Lift Maximum Results Abs Rapido --I didn't love this one. I didn't like how fast he went at tempo or how he kept telling us to round our backs. I would do it as part of the BBL rotation but I don't see myself reaching for it otherwise, unless maybe if I just want short standing ab work.

Day 7 7/27 Misty Tripoli Body Groove Delicious Dance workout 3 --My first time for a Misty workout and I really enjoyed it! It was a little outside my comfort zone but not too bad since I already bellydance so somewhat similar in feel. Now I want all the rest of them since she's closing out all DVDs (that thread is what pushed me to add her to this challenge)!
Gin Miller Danskin Long & Lean Pilates Total Body Toning bonus Arms --I have done this one several times in the past and still liked it. I like using the Pilates bar.

Day 8 7/29 Gloria Araya-Quinlan Tru2Form Latin Grooves --I bought this from Mary's last sale. I know I had the Urban Heat one on VHS back in the day but for some reason I can't find it. I am almost positive I had Latin Grooves too. Anyway, it's a fun workout but sometimes the camera angles don't allow you to see what they're doing very well.

Day 9 8/10 H. Winia Body Groove Fit workout 1 --This was fun after I relaxed and let loose.
Adrian Bryant Beginner Battle Rope Workout, YT --Picked up Tone It Up ropes that seemed perfect for home battle ropes. Not the same bc they weigh almost nothing but I really liked them and this workout.

Day 10 8/11 Get Fit With Sunshine Sandy 3 MINUTES BATTLE ROPE WORKOUT FOR BEGINNERS, YT --Probably won't do again.
Kimberley Tips On Ballet Technique -10 Minute Wobble Board Workout For Dancers, Tendu Wobble Board, YT --Highly recommend! This was great balance work. Not like, oh yay fun workout, but very functional and important!
Michelle Dozois 10MS Shape Up -Ballet --Hadn't done this DVD in ages or worked out with Michelle in quite a while.
Kettlebell Kickboxing Dasha Libin Kettlebell Complex Melt-Down Series Mobility & Recovery Flow (15) --This was short but good. Should consider doing regularly.

Day 11 8/17 Dr. Ben Kim 8 Indian Club Exercises for Improved Shoulder and Spinal Mobility, YT --Short but felt good.

Day 12 8/19 FemFusion Quick Morning Workout: Prime Your Pelvic Floor and Core, YT --Nothing new here but liked it.
Brett Hoebel RevAbs Merciless Abs (15) --Love Brett but not so much ab work. This was tough!

Day 13 8/20 S. Wierick XTrainFit Triple Threat Running Lower Body --Had done the upper body from this set and wasn't terribly impressed but this one was a really good workout. Typical XTF production quality, though, I think.

Yesterday was a planned rest day . I had planned to do some yoga, but what with meal prepping, washing my hair, going to the grocery store and post office, etc. it just didn't get done.

Day 7 - Tonique Mat. This is a toughie! I didn't even get to finish it. I stopped right at all fours work, so around 49 minute mark. My lower back started to ache a bit. I think it was all that time spent in bridge. I may do the rest this evening, as I was enjoying the workout. I took some 10 second rests in between exercises and didn't complete all the pushups (she got to those sets of 8 pushups with 8 second planks, i only got to 5 pushups with 5 second planks) and only did about 20 out of 30 knee pushups. Still doing it my way, I got to an hour. An hour is my mental limit lol!

I had to take a rest day yesterday too. Tonique workouts are tough. I have a couple of newbies that I need to try. I just have to mentally prepare for them a bit beforehand, so I end up grabbing something easier. There's always tomorrow lol.

Day 7

1. Margaret Richard: Fight Age With Strength, programs 3&4
Margaret and Heidi only use a playground ball in this workout. It was an okay workout for someone out there in the DVD exercise at home universe. It just isn’t for me.

2. Travis Eliot: 30min. Yin Yoga "Paradise" with Travis

This was an enjoyable yin yoga workout. Travis does some guided box breathing at the beginning for relaxation. His focus is on finding paradise in the present moment. It’s been a while since I’ve done any Travis or yin yoga workouts. I was surprised to find that he has uploaded several practices. I had a tough time choosing between them.

DAY 8 (July 18, 2021) virgin

2010 (Lisa Wheeler, Tracy York, Elise Gulan)
Shape 5 Day Jumpstart
  • Lisa W. - Lower Body Makeover (dance/pilates-inspired) - 20m
  • Tracy Y.- Ab Rehab (pilates-inspired) 20m
  • Elise G. - Interval Training 101 (some yoga poses) - 20m
I believe these routines are from previous Shape DVDs (none that I own except for Yumi Lee's Shape DVD), so I was pleasantly surprised by the 3 routines, all of which I enjoyed. Elise Gulan is the only instructor that I am unfamiliar with, and I liked her. They're all at the intermediate-level (perfect for me) and all are do-able.
I did 3 out of the 5 routines (I'm already familiar with Yumi Lee's kickboxing routine, which I really enjoy).
The routines can also be used as add-ons. I customized the DVD to use the first 3 workouts. I prefer doing intermediate level workouts as I rarely use advanced workouts anymore (those were for my younger years).

Day 7

Shiva Rea's Core Yoga (Water Core, Creative Core Lower and Creative Core Upper.)

Angie Stewart's 10 Minute Solutions Yoga for Beginners (Core Yoga.)

Typically, I don't reach for core/ab workouts on their own. And, I have a number of Shiva workouts that I've never even tried, because I find her workouts more advanced (intimidating) and creative than I want in my yoga. Today was nice because they were shorter (~10 minute) segments. Scenery was gorgeous (White Sands) and (Garden in Hawaii.) If I did this on a regular basis, I could see myself improving and I did like it, though could not do most of the advanced versions that Shiva was doing (which I'm okay with.) Keeper for me.

I have many of the 10 Minute Solution workouts, and if I grab one off the shelf it tends to have a Pilates or Yoga focus. I need to just donate the rest. Angie was not new-to-me, but I tend to reach for relaxing or flexibility segments....again not core or abs. I like most of the sections on this one, if not all of them. Angie is very sweet and unassuming. I like her as an instructor. Yes, this is beginner level but sometimes that's what I want and the variety is nice! Angie uses a strap to warm up the core at the start. She's also very relaxing and you don't feel like you're rushing through the exercises. A keeper.
