The news said that they are calling in all off-duty officers.

Finally heard from my friend in Boston. She's ok. She works on the building right where the first bomb exploded, but did not go to work today. I'm so glad for everyone who has heard from their friends/loved ones.

This is tragic not only for Boston, but for all of us. The only thing that makes the day bearable is to see how many brave people are willing to help.

There are a lot of heroes today. Many of the runners who came after ran straight to the hospitals to donate blood. Many who finished earlier did the same. All eye witness accounts point to the police and other first responders who were there running straight to aid the victims, not knowing if there were more bombs. I have to look at the good. If I stare to long at the evil and the tragedy, my heart hurts. I have friends who ran and are all fortunately safe. A friend's daughter ran and her brothers were there cheering her on. My friend had some very terrifying moments until she realized all of them were safe. The 8 year old boy who was probably there cheering on mom or dad just makes me cry. What should have been a triumphant day - an individual victory for so many - should not have ended this way.

I'm still in tears.

Can't even wrap my mind around it. Makes me so mad and sad.
My thoughts and prayers are with those impacted and involved.

One of the years I ran the Pittsburgh HM, there was a bomb threat and the finish was re-routed. I never found out about it until watching the news later that day, but I can't even imagine if something had happened.

I am so sad and upset and scared. What kind of a world do we live in?

I don't know what repercussions this will bring. Evil exists. It reared it's head in New York during 911, again in Benghazi and now in Boston.

How to stop it - I wish I knew.

This is so horrible. Any violence is absolutely abhorrent, but to attack an activity & event that is so human, so democratic, so global & so timeless as a marathon is so wrong.

I've read that some sources say that among the injured there are many with one or both legs missing. So sad.

I do however, think that in condemning this & thinking about those suffering, it's important to also keep a place in our hearts & minds for all the people in all the places in the world for whom such suffering is a regular occurrence.

****ty, to put it very mildly.
