However.. while I do want to drop fat and lean out, I don't really worry too much anymore - I am what I am.. and that's the added gift of age/menopause, whatever - although I want to be leaner and look better in my clothes, I am much more forgiving of how i look.
Yes this is me exactly. Sure I want to lose some weight for my health and to fit into my clothes better, but hey! I'm not losing sleep over it. I'm not an unheathly weight and I can still do the things I need to do. I'm thankful for all I have and can do. I don't need to look like a supermodel too, especially at 55 .

Hmmm, doesn't work for me. I tend to carry my weight on my lower body, and I have lower-than-average estrogen levels, and I have to be very proactive with managing stress because I have issues with my cortisol getting out of whack.

Maybe I'm the exception that proves the rule...

I definitely believe there can be exceptions, and other hormones that Dr. Oz didn't mention that influence body shape and fat deposition, but you might check your progesterone levels. Progesterone "balances" estrogen, and if your progesterone level is low, you could have lower than normal estrogen and still have the pear shape because you are estrogen dominant (too much estrogen in the estrogen/progesterone balance). When I was estrogen dominant, the pounds started creeping up even with no changes in diet or exercise.

Uhh, at least that's more attractive than a square, which I am according to the infamous Dr Oz.

For the longest time I thought I was an apple but now I think I'm a square. It's not that bad. Whenever I gain weight, it is evenly distributed on my body. No one ever notices. Even though I'm only 5'4", people often guess I'm 20-30 lbs less than my actual weight. Usually weight gain is really obvious on short people.

See I'm like that too only I call it an hourglass (or in my case an overweight hourglass ). A square is a different shape altogether. I saw a truly square-shaped person once and it was definitely unusual and memorable. That person was the shape of a television set.

Hmmm. My mom was definitely an hourglass but my waist has never nipped in as small as hers even at my lowest weight. Maybe I'm an hourglass/rectangle hybrid.
