I hadn't heard of Susie Hathaway so I looked up her DVD - it looks good! I also noticed she recommends doing it twice a week. I'm thinking of switching to twice-a-week workouts, because the last few weeks over the holidays, I've only been able to get to the gym twice a week and I've still been maintaining my weight loss (30 pounds this year) and strength. So maybe at my age, less is really more.

Good luck with the spine specialist, and I hope his bedside manner is good, too!

Sue, the Hathaway one is good. She lifts at a good pace. There are a few of her exercises that I skip or modify. Her coaching section is very good. I wish she had a way to divide upper and lower body. Cathe spoils us with pre-mixes!

For anyone who isn't already a member, the Pilates Anytime website (https://www.pilatesanytime.com/) has a 15 day free trial offer that includes several osteoporosis-safe practices and/or demonstrations. There are a couple with Sherri Betz (who I think might have actually trained Teresa Maldonado Marchok from BoneSmart), as well as some from Rebekah Rotstein of BuffBones.

Alta, I have no words of wisdom, but definitely some sympathy. Crap like this is just SCARY. In general, aging can be very anxiety provoking.

However, I know you will find every way possible to maximize your bone strength and age as gracefully as possible! You are not the type to take something like this lying down.

And VFers will ably assist as they so capably do!

Although I find Margaret Martin's books to be helpful, I don't really care for her DVD.

I don't have any advice, but I am sorry for all you are going through. It isn't fair for an avid exerciser to have to deal with such physical issues. I am hoping the BHRT helps (are those patches?). My mother has osteopena & the Dr. prescribed a medicine that she took once a week (I can't remember the name right now.). Well, she ended up breaking her left femur, & the surgeon blamed it on the medicine.
Also, I had a Dr., a vet & dentist retire on me, so I understand about that--I really miss my dentist, & I don't think my cat got the care she deserved. I should have switched vets, but it was the same office, so I thought I could trust them.
In any case, you are being proactive about your treatment, & that is the most important thing you can do now, IMHO. Keep us posted!

Thanks for the tip! I had ordered the book, but not the DVD.
