Videofit - A previous injury is definitely a possibility. I read that a MRI can detect how old/new a fracture is.

LAC - Thanks for the info. Years ago, I did rebuild some bone mass with BHRT. I'm hoping that will help again, along with good nutrition and safe exercise. I have read that taking calcium supplements too near a DEXA scan can skew the results.

BunnyHop - I know what you mean!

I have an appointment with a Spine specialist on the 4th of January. Hopefully, he can give me more info about the severity of the fracture and how to proceed.

Fingers crossed that BHRT helps you again. I can't use that, but in 2016 I did start taking Evista (Raloxifene), which acts similar to estrogen on bones. With the drug, my last dexa scan did finally show stability instead of losses.

Just as an FYI, you may need to be prepared to argue in order to get BHRT as a treatment specifically for low bone density. In 2017 the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) issued/endorsed new treatment guidelines, and neither estrogen or Raloxifene are recommended by them anymore - they favor bisphosphonates and Prolia instead. My endocrinologist has been applying a little pressure trying to get me to switch over, but I've been able to hold my ground and stay put for now.

Alta -

I am really sorry you are going through all of this. I hope you get some actual answers and a decent doctor who responds to your concerns. I hate how you have to put on a big health advocate hat before every doctor's appointment these days - don't they know you don't feel good!?!? Sending feeling better thoughts your way.

I read about that during research. Also, that many insurance companies will not cover BHRT for women older than 60. I did get a script for BHRT from my other doctor and the insurance covered it. The estrogen and progesterone are both generics.

I found my old post with my previous results using BHRT:

"I gained +2.8% bone mass in my hips and +8.3% in my spine. I'm most excited about my spinal L-4 disc. That went from a -2.3 to -1.4. That's a +9% gain!"

Carol, I missed your post. I bought the BoneSnmart DVD. I haven't previewed it yet. Thanks!

Aunt Famous, Abbe and Stephanie, thanks for your thoughts!

I buy estradiol patches at a much cheaper price from inhousepharmacy.vu. Bought from them for many years. No credit cards so I mail a check to their local mail drop in my state where I assume they have a banker. As soon as I place the order online they mail it because I am a known customer. If you are a new customer they will wait until they receive payment. Takes two to three weeks to receive from Vanuatu. I think they take debit and e-checks but it's easier for me to do a personal check. Great prices but not always exactly the brand. I get the Estradot from them. I also buy Careprost from them.

The good thing is if you have any questions, you can talk to a person who speaks English with an Australian accent since the island is near Australia. The only bad thing is they have a lot of earthquakes so I worry they might disappear one day!

I have heard that the Aging Strong series of videos from the Bone Smart lady are better than the original Bone Smart DVD, so if that one doesn't suit you, you might try the Aging Strong ones. I did part of Volume 1 last night and found it interesting - she doesn't rep you to death, and uses lots of props to make the workout more interesting than many pilates workouts. Despite being filmed on an all white background (yikes I hate that), I thought it was fine.
