Susan, thanks for the information! I am really looking for something mainly for smoothies at this point. I had my old immersion blender for years but rarely used it for anything, which is why I was excited to discover it worked so well for smoothies. It also has a whisk attachment (and that part still works, since it was the plastic holding on the blender blades that broke), and I did use that relatively recently for a small batch of whipped cream.

Even with the mini blenders for smoothies, I can't decide. I keep going back and forth regarding whether I want something totally simple or something that can be used for other tasks.

Beth, Did you see this video on Youtube?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2e_K6R_wUU4

They talk about a range of blenders and what makes them effective (or less so).

I'm still pining for a Vitamix, but making do with a no-longer-being-made KitchenAid which used to be a top mid range pick of theirs. It's fine, but for smoothies it's super important to add ingredients in the right order so the chunky bits get pureed. I do think it does make things pretty foamy, which the Vitamix does less of (apparently)

I guess my thought was that if you have the space, maybe a smoothie-specific blender might be a reasonable option?

Anna, no, I don't think I've seen that - thanks! Maybe it will help me make my decision.

I'm sure that part of my reluctance to get another immersion blender is that the whisk part of the one I have still works, so it feels like a waste.
