need ice cream advice
you guys know everything, so here's my question.
i want pistachio ice cream, but i don't want to go out and buy an ice cream maker. i was thinking of just getting vanilla ice cream, getting some unsalted shelled pistachios and somehow process them together, re-freeze and voila. i don't want to use pistachio pudding mix. it sounds like i might need to chop the nuts, heat/prepare them and maybe strain it a bit, maybe add some vanilla or almond extract. i saw this and was thinking i could adapt it somehow: https://books.google.com/books?id=ue...0cream&f=false whenever i go to the store, i have to pay a high price for a tiny little quart of ice cream (ben and jerry's, safeway select, for example) or, they just don't have it because they run out! any advice?

I just ran across this Vegan Almond & Pistachio Ice Cream: http://vedgedout.com/2013/03/16/vega...hio-ice-cream/. You could sub pistachio butter for the almond butter to up the pistachio factor.

discovered some pistachio ice cream/gelato in stores:
newly discovered: Safeway: Pistachio Biscotti Gelato Indulgences Safeway and Walmart: Talenti Sicilian Pistacio Gelato Safeway: Baskin-Robbins Pistachio Almond Ice Cream - 1 pint: this is my all-time favorite, and Safeway just started carrying it! this has the right balance of pistachio flavor, and the almond somehow amps up the pistachio flavor. These have been around for a long time, but thought i'd mention it: Safeway: Haagen-Dazs Pistachio Ice Cream Ben & Jerry's Pistachio Pistachio Ice Cream

i found another brand of Pistachio ice cream - at Safeway. it's their "house brand" called "Signature Select" Pistachio ice cream with almonds. and it's a "regular size" container, 1.5 qt.
it's pretty good too!
