I kept trying to look for pics but I couldn't find one. I did find this link:

http://improveyourfemalecurves.com/2...ndrome-part-1/

It doesn't show real butts but it does describe different butt shapes using drawings.

The same photo is used to illustrate "how to get rid of a flat butt". So square butt is just a different name for Pancake Syndrome

Yeah, I wouldn't want that kind of butt and it is what I thought a square butt was. I thought the Burr butt (2nd pic) looked o.k. especially since I lean toward a more flat butt. But I guess if the ideal butt shape (according to the link that I provided) is an inverted heart (triangle), then I guess the Burr butt would also be considered to have too much upper butt muscle. But to me, it doesn't look square shape like the above pic.

I started reading the article that I posted. That was part 1. Here are more links that show how not to train your butt ugly and is a continuition of part 1.

In this link, it shows more square butts including the pic that keilan posted. It is part 2 of the article.

http://improveyourfemalecurves.com/2...ndrome-part-2/

This is part 3:

http://improveyourfemalecurves.com/2...ndrome-part-3/

To build the lower butt, she recommends lunges, squats, butt bridges, and leg presses.

To build the upper butt, you do stiff legged deadlift, donkey kicks, cable kickbacks, and hip abduction. That's what she recommends to build upper butt so I guess you would avoid those exercises if you're scared of developing a square butt.

Thank you for all the responses. I'm thinking the term "square butt" might be subjective, because I still don't see a square. But then again, I can't determine the shape of my face; heart/oval/square.

I think the butt in the link above is very appealing. I also found the "fitness tips" link in that article a good read and it might help anyone who is struggling with this issue:

I think the Burr butt looks good too. I'm going to read the link that you posted. In the links that I provided, she also gives butt tips on her site. However, her site is geared towards heavier lifting.

Sue, from reading the articles, I suspect it's the barre workouts and not kettlebell training. KB swings seem to focus on the lower glutes and is good for rounding the butt. I love kb swings since it's good for my flat butt.

For barre exercises, I think plies are fine. But pretzels, arabesques, clams or any hip abduction work, and donkey kicks would work your upper and lower butt.

Thanks everyone for your help. I will back off barre & continue with kettlebells.

I don't know how a square butt looks like. However, my butt needs some major help as well.

The two times I have gone for physical therapy, once for my knee and the other time for my hip, I was told to strengthen my medial glutes. This involved a lot of side leg lifts with weights, clamshells, fire-walkers, etc. The side leg and butt muscles do a lot to protect the stability of the hip and knee.

Unfortunately, they don't do much for the appearance of my butt!
