Thumbs up Kanopy - FREE streaming if you have a library card!

How come I never heard of this until last week???

Kanopy

Kanopy has tons of free movies, TV shows and documentaries. The selection includes classics, indies and international films.

I've been studying Japanese and there is a good selection of Japanese movies.

All you need is a library card (with a pin number).

I did a search and there have been VF threads about Kanopy, but I missed them!

Kanopy is a great library resource! I volunteer at my local library and am constantly amazed at the resources, programs, classes, and wide variety of services they offer.

My library doesn't have Kanopy, but it does have CloudLibrary for ebooks and audiobooks, which I use daily. It also has Flipster for magazines. And it has Hoopla, which has tv and movies, books, comics, music. Which is amazing. But really I only use the CloudLibrary.

What have you been using to learn Japanese? This was a goal of mine last year that, unfortunately, got sidelined before I got started due to work and family related stuff. I'm not sure where to start. How far along are you?

I've been self-studying Japanese for over 10 years. I'd say I'm a permanent beginner. I've used just about every book, app and method available. (For me, Genki was the worst and Pimsleur is not bad.) The Human Japanese app is good, but it hasn't been updated in a while.

I should have just picked one. I can speak and understand a bit. I can read kana fairly well.

I studied kanji for a few years, but my eyes aren't the best. I found a larger print book I'm going to try.

Some libraries have the Mango Languages program for free. That was OK.

The best part is watching a Japanese program with subtitles. I don't always agree with the translation!

Thanks VVFer! My friend said the best place to start was the syllaberies (hiragana and katakana) so maybe I'll start there. I'll check out that Mango Languages and Human Japanese as well.

Bubbles - Amazon Prime and Netflix have some Japanese movies and TV series.

I love studying Japanese, but am not that much into anime or manga. Manga is where many first start learning the language.
