Talking Crossfit

My friend joined a Crossfit gym last Christmas and I saw her for the first time since then. OMG!! She looks like a lean, mean, fightin' machine. She has lost 25 lbs and looks great and she's spending less time working out! There are some Crossfit exercises I've found online that can be modified for home, I may have to give this some serious thought as I cant afford a gym membership. But, I cant imagine not doing my video workouts!!!

Their classes sound fun. I was interested in checking out my local Crossfit until I saw that dues are $90/month...

Funny this was brought up. My son's friend came to town for a visit and he came over this past Saturday and we chatted about Crossfit. This is how the conversation went (loosley ):

Son's friend: So, I joined this Crossfit gym, and it's bad a$$. We do all this crazy stuff outdoors, which sometimes is bad, cause you're having to deal with cars. The workouts are insane, and I keep hurting myself, and I'm out of it for a week, go back, hurt myself again after week, etc. Maybe I should just work out on my own, maybe get some kettlebells, dumbbells, maybe do P90X.

Me: Well, there lots of great clips on Youtube, plus Crossfit has their main website where they post their workout of the day.

Son's friend: You mean I'm doing a workout that people all over the country is doing? It's not unique?

Me: No!

Son's friend: Oh! Well, I know there lots of great workouts on Youtube. In fact, there's this gal who has great workouts and I like watching her, because she's really good looking!

Me: Is it Zuzana?

Son's friend: Yes, that's her!

Me: You should really do one of her workouts. They are tough!

So, kudos to your friend. This conversation took place with a 28 year old who is pretty buff.

My son has been doing Crossfit for a few years now and no injuries--cross fingers. He checks their site for the daily workout and does it at home. He looks great. The workouts, as far as I can tell, are fast, hard and effective. He loves them and has given up his gym membership to do these exclusively. They are definitely not for me though. Puke in the bucket some days

Wait a minute, wait a minute, you can check their website for the WOD? Huh! I'm intrigued.

There are other websites, but here is one with a few beginner workouts that can be done at home....

FirmDancer did Cross Fit for years and was kind enough to share some of her experiences with me recently when I started a thread asking about it. I haven't started at the local cross fit gym yet because I'm afraid it will interfere with my running schedule. I know I would never be able to push myself at home for those type of workouts so I'm still undecided. It is a big financial commitment.

I think Crossfit is great; I'd join in a minute but love my at-home workouts too much to give up.
