Tracie Long workouts. She tends to sneak those ab exercises in on you, and even when she has you doing straight up ab work, it's not for that long. I'm not sure what the magic is, but I had fantastic abs when I was doing Tracie's workouts.

So that leads me to my next question...what DVDs or free YouTube videos are your add-on go-tos for short 5-10 minute ab blasting?

There are so many! The DVD that comes to mind first is Quick Fix Pilates Abs as it has three short core focused workouts. There's lots on YouTube if you search "Pilates abs 10 minutes".

Total body DVD favorites of mine that have short ab segments are:
Pilates Super Sculpt
10 Minute Solution Pilates Perfect Body
Winsor Pilates for Pink
Winsor Pilates of the Fit and Famous

I like Blogilates! There's also an app, but tons of free videos on YouTube. I frequently tack on a short ab workout. Which reminds me, I just came back in from a run and should go do one now

I've never done Pilates so can't speak for that (but after this thread I'm going to have to look into it!), but I got my best abs from the Ab Circuits in Bikini Body Guide 2. I was doing Cathe, but doing the Ab Circuits from BBG2 twice a week kicked things up a notch!

Ripped abs are definitely made in the kitchen. Years ago, I received positive comments at our health club about my abs though I did absolutely no ab work. I was at a low body weight from daily running and Tae Bo Live Advanced workouts.

A strong, healthy core is made from exercise, though.

For those who dislike pilates, Gilad has some impressive athletic-style core workouts (like Ultimate Body Sculpt: Core and More and his Lord of the Abs series). His core workouts are about 40-60 minutes long, though I think they're chaptered.

I agree with Bubbles re Tracie Long and with Mizach re kettlebell training, too.

Pilates sessions give me overall ab strength and tightness. To get more cut abs, I do abs with almost every workout, so 4-6x per week I'm on the floor for another 8-10 minutes. I'm partial to traditional ab work and do lots of Cathe abs.

The ab results I desire are strong, flat abs. I also like waist definition. What's worked for me are

Planks - especially static forearm planks, and plank push ups

Classical Stretch/Essentrics - both standing and floor work

Yoga - standing balance poses like Warrior 3 and Eagle, and seated poses like Navasana (boat)

Kickboxing - Cathe or Taebo

Calorie Control
