OffTopic: Anyone have stomach/digestive issues?

Hi All!
Sorry if this is too much information to share.
i know this is off topic but this is seriously affecting my ability to exercise!
2 months ago I had 5 days of diarrhea. I went to my PCP and they ran a whole bunch of tests and they all came back negative. They said it was just probably something I ate. They told me to do the bananas, applesauce, rice, bread diet and that worked the first day.

Now, every once in a while I will have diarrhea again. Today I felt crampy and had close to diarrhea.
I am just wondering if anyone else has had these issues?
I always prided myself on my cast iron stomach, but that is not the case anymore. No one has tested me for gluten or dairy sensitivities, so maybe it could be that?
I do know I should eat more vegetables. I have a job that requires me to be in my car all day and I have gotten really sick of salads and cold vegetables; so I tend to only eat vegetables at dinner time. I do eat plenty of fruit.

Last May I was hospitalized with colitis. In my case it was bloody diarrhea with vomiting. One minute I was fine and the next I was on the bathroom with more abdominal pain that anyone should ever have. It's only in the last 2 months that I've been close to normal. I'll PM you. Dh says I must cook dinner.

Very few people have true food allergies, but food sensitivities are not uncommon at all and can come and go throughout your life. You can be fine with something all of your life and then all of a sudden it causes you issues. It might be worth it to look into an IgG/IgE food sensitivity test. It is a blood test that will show you what foods cause inflammation within your body. I have a very sensitive digestive system due to a medication that I took in high school (Accutane). I had the test ran recently and proceeded to cut out all of the foods that were causing inflammation in my body issues. For the first time in a couple of years, I'm pretty much pain free (my poor intestines were so swollen that it would hurt to push on my abdomen) and most of my digestive issues have began to fade.

I go through periods like that. I realized it happened when I was stressed about something. I had been pretty much working myself into a frenzy about things, with the result being a nasty case of IBS. The worse thing - I was hungry, because it was all lower GI, but if I ate... Holy crap. (literally)

I don't know how old you are, but you could just be lacking enzymes to help digest food. That seems to be the case with me the older I get. I know were aren't supposed to talk about supplements, but you also might just needed some digestive enzymes to help with breaking down your food.

Gluten does it to me. Eating certain fruits does it too. I found out about the FODMAP list of foods. Its for IBS issues. Most of my food triggers are on the list. Stress used to give me diarrhea too.

It sounds like an elimination diet (Its a method to check for food sensitivities, not an actual diet.) Google it.

Probiotics can help, but it takes the right one. There are many different strains of them. It alone often is not the whole answer if your having food sensitivities. FB has many groups that help you to find out what type of eating style would work best for you.

If one Dr. can't help you, go find another Dr. Some Dr.s are not able to think outside of the box. Go to your health food store and ask around. They might know of a naturopathic Dr. You might have to go outside of your town. When I came down with MS following a vaccine, I tried the local specialists. They said I was crazy. It took going to a specialist in a city hundreds of miles away to get a diagnosis. Our local neurologists were not well trained at reading the MRI.

Hi everyone, I'm new here! I can't tell you how glad I am that this was posted. I, myself, have been dealing with GI issues. One day a food is fine, another day & it causes my stomach to bloat up like a parade float!! No joke, I look like I'm somewhere in pregnancy. I recently bought the book "Fast metabolism diet". It's mostly about eating clean, what certain foods do to certain organs, good & bad etc. I'm finding it helpful. It also has grocery lists & recipes. I agree though in having things checked by a doctor. I'm at my wits end!!! I just want to eat and feel normal

I suffered from IBS a few years ago and was told by my doctor to take a daily probiotic. My digestive issues, for the most part, are a thing of the past. I can even eat foods that I had problems with.

One thing that will help a lot, especially if you seek additional medical advice, is to start logging daily: food, water/fluid intake, stress levels and any over-the-counter medications you take, including your vitamins. Note times on everything too. Yes, it's a pain, but you might be able to see a pattern.

Recently my dad had severe bouts of diarrhea which he traced to Aleve, which he'd started taking for arthritis pain. As soon as he stopped his (low daily) dose, the diarrhea stopped. I have a similar reaction to ibuprofen, which is the only thing that works for my period cramps but plays havoc with my bowels. At least I know it and can get ready.

Elimination diets are a good idea too, if you suspect a food trigger. Not many people have allergies but a lot have sensitivities. I was able to pinpoint a food in my diet that was giving me gas and bloating. I can now eat one serving a day with no problems, but that was after cutting it out entirely for a month or so and gradually introducing it back in.

Good luck. Digestive/stomach issues are awful.
