Any hope in restoring my dvd? Currently skips and freezes...

I'm hoping someone can offer some genious advice. I have a Classical Stretch Season 5 disc that skips and freezes for 2 episodes. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I don't want to ruin the disc, since it is OOP and rare and I don't want to risk losing ALL the episodes versus just the two that will not play currently.

Guidance will be greaty appreciated! Thank you.

ETA: I should mention that I have tried the dvd in two different computer drives and both skip at the same exact places. I will try in my dvd player tonight. In the meantime, I am calling the local Blockbuster stores to see who can resurface the dvd for me. Only select stores in my area do this, I was told. Thanks all...Keep the suggestions coming please!

A simple solution is to try cleaning with Windex; this may or may not help, but it shouldn't hurt.

Someone once told me to wipe a grungy DVD with silk, and it totally worked. Like the Windex, it won't help if the disc is scratched/gouged, but it won't hurt. Good luck!

Take it to a second hand DVD/Video Game retailer & have them "resurface" it. It will probably cost a couple bucks. In my area the retailer has a higher quality machine than the video rental store does.

As far as do it yourself - furniture polish will not make your DVD worse - but it's also very temporary. RainX or PlastX are polishes found in the automotive section - these also "cover" scratches and are less temporary but not abrasive.

DiscDr (SkipDr) type products are abrasive ..... last resort.

Here's what Cathe advises you to do:

I've washed DVD surface w/ dish washing liquid... it works for smudges.

Mine do that every so often but it's my DVD player not the disc. If you have a DVD player that is more than a few years old, that might be the problem.

DH took the disc to Blockbuster and they resurfaced it, however it still freezes in the exact same places.

I may just have a bum disc and will keep a watch for another one on ebay or Amazon. Thanks all!
