Update: I went to see the doctor today and as I expected, I need surgery. He said that I cannot put any weight on it for 10 days post surgery. I think after that I will be able to drive and gradually increase my walking and decrease support. I have a vacation planned from late March until mid April so I won’t have the surgery until I get back. I would rather get it done ASAP but I can’t be scheduled soon enough to allow recovery before a walking intensive vacation which is already paid for.
In the meantime, I need to wear my orthotics as much as possible. I admit I don’t wear them often enough because it is hard to find shoes that work with them.
He also sad that the bunion on my left foot will need surgery eventually because it is where my right foot was probably last year. Same post op limitations so I can’t have them done at the same time.
I may need to buy a reformer....
Pat let us know how your surgery goes tomorrow.

Leslie, will you be able to comfortably manage your vacation, esp one with lots of walking?
Best of luck tomorrow Pat!

Thanks for sharing about your doctor visit. And yes, you should buy a reformer. We can be sisters in foot pain doing Pilates.

Right now the pain is not that bad, or more accurately the pain is bad but only sporadically. I am concerned about vacation though. I have a call into doctor to ask more questions about the recovery timeline.

Leslie -- I had bunion surgery a year ago yesterday. I was lucky to have a couple very nice VFers how had been through the process to talk to. Please feel free to PM me if you want to talk to someone who's been through it.

Hazel, thanks for the offer! I will be messaging you soon. I have not heard from the doctor but I spoke to the person in charge of scheduling surgery. They can't schedule until the end of February which will definitely not allow for recovery before my vacation. I asked about the procedure codes so I could check with my insurance about reimbursement. The surgery will be an Austin/Akin bunionectomy. a Weil Osteotomy and a procedure to correct a hammertoe. It looks like I am in for a long recovery time but I need to talk to the doctor. I should have brought a pen and paper with me to the appointment to take notes.
In any case I definitely need to take care of it.

I was only joking about buying a reformer. I really don't want to buy a large piece of equipment although I did enjoy working on the reformer at Club Pilates.
