OK, I'm skimming posts but I'm here! And I've been using Peloton Digital, so Daphne you can look for runwnyah--that's me! There's something so satisfying about having a space set up exactly the way you want, isn't there? I feel like my workout room is finally like that. Though of course there's always room for improvement! Not literal room, more figurative. I still haven't tried Hydrow though I am using my rower.

I have the same fluid trainer! Though I confess I haven't used it or my road bike in over a year.

Alison, did you ride on roads or on isolated paths? I generally only ride outdoors on Sundays near the house. There are some new paths designated as multi-use and free of car traffic but I have to drive quite a ways to get there so haven't tried them yet. That's what puts me off cycling.

Vantreesta it sounds like you're doing well! That's some crazy weather you're having there. We've had SO much rain this year it's as buggy as Atlanta was and of course there are also scorpions, rattlesnakes, etc.

I'm still hoping to make it to the D.C. area in the spring. DD got her first vaccination shot last week. DS is still too young (he's 10) so I'm hoping it becomes available before spring break. I'm a little hesitant to take him on a plane until he gets it. He tends to have weird reactions (mostly hives) to viruses.

Things here are pretty much the same--lots of kid activities, we're making regular use of our pool, and I've managed to get in some paddling on weekends. My job is so laid back compared to the old one. There's been a ton of turnover but I think everyone in my group now will stay a while and they all seem nice.

We are having some issues with my dad. He was in the hospital shortly after I returned from ATL. He's had multiple myeloma for many years and it was basically kept at bay with chemo pills. His calcium levels got high and he needed dialysis. My brother flew out and stayed a couple of weeks. They switched my dad to different meds and he did hire someone to drive him to doctor appointments and such. Now apparently the new meds are making him confused. My brother called Monday because my dad's friend called him, concerned about our dad. My brother wanted me to fly out and stay two weeks and I told him that was impossible, plus we can't just keep flying out. My dad needs some change in living situation--either to move or hire someone to come in.

So my brother is talking to him and I'm kind of on standby. I said I could fly out for maybe 5 days but not just to visit. I'd fly out to help set something up. Feeling a little bad that I don't feel more responsible, but my dad just refuses to listen to me so why keep trying to talk?

I can't remember if I mentioned it but I signed up for the Flagstaff Marathon 10K a while back. That's guiding my workouts these days. I'm back to running 3 days a week with the long run always on trail. The 10K is all trail and at altitude. I did the half marathon there in 2018 and it was TOUGH so I have no expectations for finish time, just want to not die!

I'm alternating runs with strength work from the Define and Align set I got on Prime Day. Each DVD is 30 minutes so I also fit in iFit or Peloton spin or iFit rowing or today some BodyCombat. I feel like I'm finally improving my fitness. Now if only I could drop a few pounds!

Yesterday was 3 miles of dog walks, no other workouts. Had to run errands and then was just too excited to start on my village so I did the rest of the cleanup that was needed, set up platforms, pulled out all the tubs from storage and got the ground covers on. My dad is letting me borrow his table they used camping so it turns out I need one more ground cover. After our walk I will run pick one up then workout and finally start building! Okay, by then my excitement will be huge so I hope I can focus on a workout! I have had a hard time falling asleep the last few nights bc I keep thinking about decorating!

Village is all up. Over the next week I'll spend a little time each day putting up the rest of the inside decorations. I know some people have wanted to see pics but please don't feel obligated, just posting the link to VF Roost in case anyone wants to see them. https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/vfro...ures-t154.html

Vantreesta: That’s so great that you have the village up! I need to find my VF Roost login info—I haven’t been there in a LONG time.

Pratima: I hope your dad is doing ok. My dad just tested positive for COVID. He went on a stupid trip to Alaska and got it. He is vaxed, so it’s mild, but still worrisome.

More Pratima: I have been biking on multi-use paths along main roads. It’s not pleasant, but it’s mostly safe. Some intersection crossings are hairy, and the trails aren’t in the best shape. We have a 50-ish mile long rail trail nearby, which I keep hoping to use, but last week I didn’t have the car with the bike rack, and this past weekend, I had to be done by 10:00 am, so I had to start from home as soon as the sun came up. For that one, I also rode 3 laps around George Mason University’s campus, which is pretty quiet early Saturday morning.

Daphne: Hope all is well and you’re enjoying your Peleton!

Me: I’m still staying on top of all my training, which honestly, surprises me! I often have to shuffle the days around, but I’ve still done every workout, including the upper-body strength training. I’m going on an overnight hiking trip Friday—staying in a hotel, not backpacking—so I’ll have to attempt the long ride Sunday after 2 long days of hiking. We’ll see how that goes!

This morning, I stacked a Denis 80s ride, Bradley pop-punk ride, and Sam 80s rock ride. I’m still buzzing from that! Peloton seems to be upping the British angle and opening their new London studio, so I hope that means more rides from my favorites!

Yesterday I really did not want to do the workouts I had planned so I compromised with half fun, half planned. I did Misty Tripoli's Bootylicious off Delicious Dance for the first time, which was fun. Then I did 5 rounds of a desk jockey WOD from March. My pull up bar is down right now so I can get in and out of the Halloween closet so for the hanging knee raises I just held myself up on TheRack like it was a dip station and did them that way. It hit the abs the same but lacked the hang benefit. Then I did another virgin, WWE Stephanie McMahon Fit Series -Lower Body+Stretch. I know I hadn't done the lower body section, but since I had done the upper body it's possible I did the stretch too. I couldn't find the index card for it in my quick search so I can't say for sure right now. The workout was 2 rounds of the following exercises: goblet squats, reverse lunges, deadlifts, quadruped straight leg raises (with your chest on your thigh, which was kind of weird) and donkey kick circles. First round was 8 reps, second was 12. Not a bad workout but my biggest gripe is that she leads you through a couple minutes of warmup and THEN demos the exercises. Drove me crazy to have to just stop when she should have demoed before the warmup!

Sorry I'm such a bad check in buddy! I read and never reply and don't even post my workouts often. I am trying to find a way to fit it in to my day without spending too much time when I should be doing other things!

I posted my village pics on Total Fitness where anyone can see them. Here's the link.

I really really want to get back to a good routine. I feel like a helium balloon that lost its tether! So I decided I want to just go ahead this week and finish all the decorating except for my cemetery in the yard since hubby needs to mow still. That part won't take long to do the first week of October. If I can get everything up maybe my brain will shut up about the excitement and just enjoy it all so I can focus on other things!

Hi all -- I was off with family in the Outer Banks for a week and since I got back, dealing with general life chaos.

While in OBX I alternated running days and walking days. I vowed to use my Peloton and Hydrow apps to do bodyweight strength and Pilates workouts and never did a single one. Every morning I picked one out. Every night I said oops.

I did catch sunrise every single morning and had some wonderful wildlife encounters. Took lots of photos and shed a few tears because I used to take Nema out at sunrise every morning down there. She was my morning and evening beach companion for 13 years. Our kids (24 and 26, but still kids to me) joined us for most of the week and we went with the other family we've been going with years. I love our OBX traditions.

Anyway, got back Saturday, allowed myself a day of post-vacation blues on Sunday and now I'm back in the routine. Exasperated by the ups and downs of this very stubborn hamstring that first sidelined me back in June. My chiropractor ORDERED ME to run, row, cycle and lift but to stick to gentler workouts. He said there's no way to avoid using my hamstring, so go ahead and do it. He wants me to focus on strengthening and conditioning it and he will do the work to heal it. Sounds like a plan. I love being ordered to choose easier workouts. It removes my guilt.

So I'm mostly doing Low Impact rides on Peloton. Yesterday was a 10 minute super easy Bradley Low Impact ride with a 70s pop soundtrack (Elton John, Cat Stevens) and today was a 20 minute Denis Low Impact to 90s music. Denis' arms looked especially good today, Alison.

I signed up for Hydrow's Commit to Fit challenge -- minimum of four 20-minute workouts per week, so that's perfect. I love rowing with Sera Moon, Mike and Aquil on the Charles River right now and seeing all the other people out training for the Head of the Charles race in October. Very inspiring.

Comments:
Alison - Wow, it feels like just a few weeks ago that you were striving to do an hour on the bike and now you've taken a huge step forward in progress. It's impressive. I love all the London studio stuff too. I got a huge kick out of the new Irish instructor Daniel. Red hair, red beard and the accent is pure Irish. Very entertaining. I've done a couple of his strength workouts and like them. (I filter for "intermediate" level workouts, which are right up my alley but might be too easy for you.) I needed my captioning on for Daniel for sure. I hope your dad does okay with COVID. I'm so glad he's vaccinated.

Pratima - Your Flagstaff race must be really tough. I struggle for air just hiking on some of those trails in Arizona, so running them has got to be brutal. You're one of the strongest people I know though! I am terrible about following people on Peloton but I'll look for you. I am DaphneRunOn but don't follow anyone (except Cleda) because I love my anonymity. I'm sorry your dad isn't doing well. Dealing with aging parents is so hard.

Vannie - Your village must be amazing. I'll have to check it out later. Back to work!

Daphne: Glad you had a good trip to the beach.

Vantreesta: Your village looks amazing!

Me: I finished whatever number week this is of training. Only 3 more weeks to go. I had a great time hiking with my friends Friday and Saturday. We went to southern Shenandoah National Park on a bunch of trails I’ve never done before. One trail, just outside the park, had a 1-mile long old completely dark railroad tunnel. It was pretty creepy and my claustrophobia was an issue, but I made it through—twice since the trail was out-and-back.

Yesterday was 40 miles on the bike. I wanted to turn around after only 15 minutes, but I kept going and I started to feel better. I have four more long training rides before the century. I’m not sure where I will do them, because the rail-trail is just too crowded on the weekends.

This morning was Bradley’s Brit Pop ride and Sam’s British Rock ride. I enjoyed both, but I was so tried from this weekend, so it wasn’t my best showing.

Alison, there are a couple of new multi-use trails here that I think are closed to traffic. I have to drive a bit to get to them though (30ish minutes) and haven't been on my road bike in over a year. In my area, Sundays are usually relatively safe, IMO. But I've been doing trail runs one weekend day and want to sleep the other! It's still a bit warm but after this race I may finally get on my bike. Is it hilly where you ride?

Oh, I hope your dad does OK! Looks like it's been a week since he got sick (or more). Is he recovering? My whole family was significantly better after a week, though I was definitely not myself for close to a month after getting COVID back in April.

Daphne, awww I'm sorry and also a little glad you saw the sunrises and were reminded of Nema. I both love and hate being reminded of those who aren't with us. I think I like the chiro who told you to work out! It seems like working on injuries or weaknesses is often more effective than trying to just rest and let them heal.

Vantreesta, your villages are amazing! I'll have to show my kids. They're already asking when DH will put up our decorations, though so far neither has said anything about a costume. And I am hoping it stays that way! Not sure why. I guess years ago when our street had lots of kids the same ages as mine, it was fun to dress up and have a block party. Now all the kids are either much older or much younger and I don't feel the same. I do like the decorations though.

I've stepped up the running and am feeling it. I'm doing 3 runs per week, averaging about 13 miles total. Which isn't much, but the one trail run a week has been killer! There's something about going over 4 miles that gets me whether on road or trail. Last weekend I did 5.5 trail miles alone and it was awful. All uphill on the way out, too many mountain bikers hogging the trail, and I was so whiny in my head. Yesterday I was with two other ladies and did 6.25 miles and it felt so much better!

I'm still doing the Define and Align workouts, fitting in rowing, Bodycombat, or spin when I can. I'm so glad D&A workouts are 30 minutes because I can ALWAYS fit that in.

This is potentially a rough week. DH is going to visit his parents Thurs morning to Sat night. I'm taking DD to the Gold Over America show Wed night. I'm so irritated with her I kind of don't want to, but the tickets were expensive!

DD has been dishonest left and right, about silly stuff. She tells us she's "doing homework" but is actually sitting here watching random YouTubes. And DS argues about absolutely everything. It's exhausting and I have this feeling like the dishonesty could lead to worse things. I'm wearing myself out.

Anyway, the kids are on fall break next week and of course we're going up north, so hopefully if I make it through this week, I'll be all good after that!

Came back to say my brother is back in ATL. A friend of my dad's called my brother and said he was concerned, that my dad seems weak and confused, so he's out there. Supposedly just helping him sell his car, but honestly I wish he could get my dad to move! Not going to happen.
