Another hour of shoveling done. It still isn't all done but it's passable for both our vehicles and pedestrians so I'm calling it good enough for now. I woke up sore and achy all over, basically from my SI joints up to my shoulders. Some of it is good DOMS but some is 45 yo joints doing what they're not used to doing!

Went into a bit of slump from Thursday evening - as surgeon followup was disappointing.

He did NOT give me a date for ACL reconstruction & meniscus repair. Instead wants me to get a second opinion from a guy in Sydney who specialises in these for people over 50. Questioned why he's sending me down and he said that doing it in "older" people is the subject of quite a bit of debate. Personally I suspect either (or both) or the following two reasons:
1) he's covering his arse for insurance in case it's done & the 1-year follow up isn't great, and it wasn't HIS decision, it was either mine, or the Sydney guy.
2) the Sydney guy is a Professor at the university & they are under constant pressure to publish and I'd be an extra person for a study.

Yes, I'm cynical. BUT a positive thought is that maybe the local guy isn't just chasing money and pouncing on another bunch of surgery fees???

Helen - Here's hoping you continue to heal regardless of the method.

Vannie - Never let you know I ordered the Vanicream. It wasn't great for my flare up but works otherwise. It was reasonably priced so all is good.

Sandy - Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Caroline's programs you're doing. I'm thinking if I repeat EPIC it will be harder because I would know what's coming! Lots of stretching is helping me continue with the program for sure - and honoring those rest days.

With all the craziness in the world, it's hard to know what to think about anything. I hope you get a resolution soon.

Vannie, we've been so spoiled this winter with the warmer weather, this bitter cold streak is tough to handle.

buff, I have picked three five day programs to try since I already did Beginner Epic. I'm doing two from the HIIT series with this week's 45 minute 5 day weight series, and I'll do the last 2 HIIT with the hour long class 5 day series maybe the last week of Feb. I actually really liked the seven 21 minute Cassey Ho classes I did last week, and I may do them again next week maybe upping some of the weights.

Helen, I saw on your other check in you can't see the guy in Sydney till June?!?! That sucks! That is so much thinking on your part just to get a workout done. I don't think I would have the patience for it long term.

Buff, I'm glad the Vanicream is helpful in some way. I don't use it very often anymore, I use the Aveeno if I'm really itchy.

Sandy, the cold is sort of disincentivizing (did I just make up a word?) but for me the worst is the icy spots. Although I have to be careful with Cyric so we wouldn't be doing long walks in this cold snap anyway. We only went 1.2 mi this morning but I was way overdressed. Sunshine and no wind made the Cuddle Dud thermal underwear pants overkill and so was the winter coat even though the real feel was -18.

We spent the wknd with my father-in-law. Thankfully he has recovered and you wouldn't even know he had covid. As usual I was a complete slug while there. It was even colder up there but I did get out Saturday to the thrift store and then picked up pizza for supper. Got family sized pizzas from Papa Murphy's and hubby and I were so hungry there was only 1 1/2 pieces left of ours! Eating is so irregular there bc he never cooks so if I want to cook I have to bring all the ingredients or make smthg ahead of time to just bake.

This morning after our walk I did day 14 of Lucy's Fitness Advent calendar. I think I am done with this. She and the workouts just don't do much for me. Many things I would rather do so even though there's only 10 days of the challenge left I am giving it up. Then I did 2.122 mi on the treadmill for wk2 day2 of the 10k trainer. I'm struggling with the Zombies Run app bc an Android update messed up one of the features. My phone is two updates behind the one that fixes it so I have no clue when mine will work right. The app tells you a story of a mission you're on with breaks in btwn where your music of choice plays. The update broke the ability for the music to play so now I hear story then silence then story, etc. I am finding I can't stay focused bc in the silence my mind wanders and I can't remember/track what's going on in the mission. I guess I'll have to play the stereo and keep the remote on the treadmill to adjust the volume. Not sure what I'll do when I can run outside. I should have done the next day of Fightmaster Yoga but all I wanted was a shower and food to silence my growling stomach. I may do the yoga tonight while our chili simmers.

My knee has been hurting again today since before I worked out. I hadn't worked out since Thu, hadn't shoveled since Fri and was a bum over the wknd. I'm wort of wondering if it isn't from all the slipping on ice. I haven't fallen so far this year but have slipped so many times.

Sandy - Like the idea of combining the 2 Caroline series. I anticipate using that.

I think I remember you saying something about soooo many push ups in Caroline's classes.... well this week's classes were body weight, so the triceps chest day was pretty much all push ups, and the back shoulders day was handstands or pike push ups, so these were not good for my wrists. I liked the two leg days and full body, but today's HIIT is upper body/core, so another ton of push ups and burpees. I have been trying to do the workouts as posted, but many push ups will be from the knees and maybe the burpees step out and in. We'll see. The shoulder back day really did a number on my lower back.

I will preview the hour long 5 class series before I commit to doing it.

My goodness this below zero fahrenheit for highs is getting old.

Ditto! Our real feel was -38 when I got up, actual temp -18. I took Cyric out in the backyard quickly to do his business at 7 then went back to bed for a while. We will attempt a very short walk before supper. He really won't do more than wet without a walk unless it's really been a while. We were able to walk a mile yesterday morning but have only been out for bathroom breaks since then.

I do my best but know I have to modify or risk an achy back and sore neck. Today I did DL with 15s, pretty low. But we pre-loaded and DLs were in every third triset. I did sub SLDL for reg DL in one exercise. And squats on my toes - why? Just why? Doesn't that just move it more to the quads anyway?! Yeah, just no for me. And those hamstring bridges and marches from other days? Another move that can get my back. I brought my feet in but less so than for a regular bridge. No guilt here, I need to work the intended muscle.
