Good morning! Happy Moan Day! I'm sorry to have not posted recently, my family is being bombarded with sadness and I was inactive a couple of days. My 80 year old BIL is in the hospital with a myriad of health problems he has hidden since my sister died in 2019, and we also found out that my other sister, who the family is estranged from, died last week.

I'm feeling better after two good workouts yesterday and some good news. DH and I hit the gym where I had a 50 minute workout of weights and 15 minutes recumbent. In the early evening I walked to my osprey nest and got to see the juvenile bird fledge from the nest. I did not see any parents about. All of a sudden the juvie stood up, flapping his wings like he was exercising, and suddenly took off to another light post. He flew short distances to several light posts, stopping to rest. It looked like he was starting the Couch to 5K program! I'm so excited to have experienced that moment and it was such a huge mood lift and reminder that there is so much joy in life, too.

Also 7,500 steps.

I promise to catch up tomorrow - make it a great day everyone!

Oh, Pat, I'm sorry about your sister - I know you weren't in touch, yet a loss like that can still bring about sadness and other mixed feelings. And although you knew your BIL wasn't doing well, of course you can never prepare yourself. Hugs to you (and glad you got a little osprey mood lift)!!!

Definitely Moan Day here - I don't go back to work until tomorrow, but I've spent the past few hours going over my schedule, taking notes, preparing for meetings, etc.

Off to do some exercise; since it's a nice day here, I'll also bike to the library (and maybe around a bit) this afternoon.

Pat - I’m so sorry about your sister. And sorry your BIL has ended up in hospital, I remember you mentioning he is unwell. The cycle of life sure is harsh sometimes. Sending you (((hugs))).

Beth - Enjoy your last day of freedom!

Sweet Pat, I'm so sorry about your BIL and your sister. (((HUGS)))
What a great story about the osprey juvenile bird! Nice avatar!

Pam, when I sleep on my side I also use a king size pillow to prop my leg on. It's more comfortable that way.
If I do all the salad fixings prep work on the weekends, it ensures that I eat my big salad for lunch everyday.
If you want your oat groats to have the consistency of brown rice, I have a way of cooking them for that and here is how I do it (the recipe is from the blog Nutmeg Notebook):

2 cups oat groats (rinsed)
3 cups boiling water

Place above ingredients in Instant Pot. Cook at High Pressure for 5 minutes. Let it pressure come down naturally and let them sit for 2 hours after cooked without opening the lid. When you let them sit for 2 hours after cooked without opening the lid, this is what makes them like the consistency of brown rice. If you prefer your oat groats to turn out like porridge then you don't have to let them sit unopened for 2 hours after cooked.

Cyana, thanks for the "Penguin Town" recommendation!

Hi everyone!

No fever this morning -- yay! Energy not yet back to 100% but definitely feeling improved. For

Today's Workout: I went into my workout space vaguely planning to do something gentle and stretchy, but to my surprise found myself craving a regular workout. So I did Total Body from Jessica Smith's first Walk Strong set (which is really more upper body IMHO). Followed that with Total Stretch from Jessica's Walk Strong 3, as helps my low back feel better when it is tight.

My right knee is mostly recovered from whatever I did to it, but there's still some "off" feeling in there and I noticed the knee didn't want to bend into certain positions during my stretch. I think I had better do more knee rehabbing for a bit.

Re masks, my county mandated masks for all in indoor places as of last Friday. Luckily our library patrons, with only one or two exceptions, have been cooperative. A group of Bay Area counties have just done the same.

Pat58: So sorry to hear about your sister! Take good care of yourself right now.

Beth: Good luck going back to work tomorrow!

Waving to all!

Pam & Sandra, thanks for the goodwill for tomorrow! Hopefully it will be anti-climatic.

Sandra, glad you are feeling better.

I just got my bike tire fixed on Friday (the other one this time!), so I enjoyed a nice little ride to the library and around the area today.

~BellyFit: Invoking Sovereignty
~MFML: Forrest Morning Flow - this was quite gentle with twists, some core work, & dolphin pose.
~MELT: Upper Body Restore Map

Sandra - I’m so glad you’re feeling better!

Paine - Thanks for the tips on cooking oat groats!

Waves to all!

Good morning! Yesterday I took a neighborhood walk and challenged myself to go up a long, steep hill from the river. Whew. 6,500 steps for the day.

Thanks for the hugs everyone. I really appreciate it.

Paine, thank you for the oat groats recipe. I'll have to try that and check out the blog, too.

I hope Beth's return to work and 10,000 emails is going okay.

Sandra, I missed that you have been sick - I'm so sorry to hear it. Good news that you craved a workout! Connecticut is on the brink of requiring them indoors, too. I began wearing mine again at the gym and at stores this weekend.

Pam - your MFML yoga - is that Ana Forrest?

Everyone have a great day and stay healthy.

Good 'N Strong (Volume 2: all of the upper body work plus calves and abs)
Strong Knees (Segment #6: Stretching)

I had a good workout this morning. I like the way Margaret works out the calves in Good 'N Strong Volume 2. You lay on your back with knees bent and lift your heels up and down, which deeply works both your calves and ankles.

Ever since Sandra mentioned Strong Knees, I have been wanting to bring that DVD out to do the stretching segment because I remember liking it. I did like it today--it felt really good. It is a 12 minute stretch segment. Stretches are all static stretches and held for 30 seconds. Sandra, you might want to preview that stretch segment before you get rid of that DVD.

Pat and Pam, Nutmeg Notebook also has a really nice YouTube channel that you might want to check out.

Beth, let us know how your first day back to work goes. I hope it's a good day for you.

Monday:
breath work - slow deep breathing, healing sounds with "hee" exhalation
YT - Team Body Project (TBP) 20 Minutes, No Equipment - posted 8.6.2020
YT - YoQi - Mood Lifter (working on getting those demons out of my hips )
Stood for > 1 hour while working (probably closer to 2, but I wasn't watching the clock closely)
Soaked my feet in Epsom salts before bed.

Alas, the foot soaking did not help with insomnia, was I was awake from around 2 until between 5 and 6 AM.

Sandra - I'm SO happy to hear that you're feeling better. Even though our COVID cases are creeping up, the state and local officials have been pretty quiet. I've noticed more people wearing masks at the outdoor farmer's market and when DH and I go to Whole Wallet to pick up our groceries and watch the people going into and coming out of the store as we wait for our groceries to be delivered to our car. For the most part, people in my immediate area have demonstrated responsible behavior.

Pat - I'm sorry to hear about your sister's passing and that your BIL is in the hospital. That was a great osprey story and I really appreciate you sharing the links to the two osprey cams this year, as I've enjoyed keeping up with the families, even though Chez Osprey didn't have a happy ending. I've had the pleasure of watching an immature sharp-shinned or Cooper's hawk hanging out in my yard for the better part of a week. There are numerous vantage points for hunting (trees, fence, power lines, roof, etc.). I felt better when I pulled out the trusty Peterson's field guide and it noted that it can be hard to distinguish between the two, although I'm leaning toward Cooper's.

Beth - I hope your return to on-campus work wasn't too traumatic today.

Pam and Paine - I typically use a body pillow and 2 standard sized pillows for propping when I'm on my side (in addition to my "head" pillow). It can be quite the production, LOL! I'll have to check out the Nutmeg Notebook.

Must get back to work - hope everyone has a good day. We're finally getting some relief from the heat and humidity today - hooray!
