Good ideas! I have always had a square butt and hate it! I didn't know pretzel work could make it worse. I have BBL and Dancer's Body and never do them, so I'll start incorporating them into my routine. That's one of the things I love about barre. It's easy to mix and max various sections using different workouts. Great for someone like me who has exercise ADD.

maybe you've been doing to much butt work without enough stretching?

What does a square butt look like? I see this topic on VF quite a bit, and I honestly have no idea what a square butt looks like. I was just vacationing in Hawaii for a couple of weeks and I saw hundreds of women's behinds in all shapes and sizes, and not one resembled a square. Are there pictures of a square butt?

TIA

LOL! That's a really good question!

I Googled "square butt" and got some scary NSFW pics and lots of pics of guns Also found this article from Livestrong (with a non-scary pic): http://www.livestrong.com/article/48...a-square-butt/

When the gluteus medius is overdeveloped, it gives the butt a square shape.

I have this problem but I think it's due to my bad posture. My pelvis is regularly tucked which probably deactivates my gluteus maximus.

From the pic in the website, it looks like a flat butt. I always thought square butt was when somebody starts building muscle below their waist (the top portion of the glutes). That's the reason why I thought some people were avoiding Firm tall box presses.

And I didn't know that pretzels cause a square butt.

Is THAT a square butt? Looks like a plain butt in baggy jeans to me.

Here's another thread where we talked about a square butt. This is the reason why I thought a square butt meant that we were building the upper part of the butt so that the butt looked square.

Would the barre square butt be more like this? (bottom pic, no pun intended): http://blog.barmethod.com/ExerciseBl...R-WOMEN-Part-2

Yes! That's the muscle that was getting overdeveloped on me and my jeans were tight across the top of my pockets. Add that chunky little muscle to the side indent on the glute and it gives a square shape.
