Interesting eBay Bootleg Story

Okay, I should have known that CLX for $29.95 was bogus - and maybe I did. I was convinced when VFers told me that the rotation was on Page whatever of the manual and my manual didn't even have that many pages.

I didn't like it anyway and opened a case with eBay. We went through the process and they eventually told me to return it to the seller (and provided the address) and told me they'd give me a refund upon proof of delivery. They got their delivery proof and issued me a refund.

Today I received a letter from the name on the address telling me they received a DVD from me and had no idea why. I emailed the address they sent, explaining the situation and suggesting that - if it wasn't them - someone was using their name and address on a PayPal account to sell DVD dupes on eBay.

The woman is upset and planning to investigate. I suppose these sellers need an address to open a PayPal account and, by thentime it's ever checked out, they've taken their money and run.

Wow, what a scary story Joni.

But, I'm glad that Ebay reimbursed you.

I'm almost more concerned for the woman whose address was used.

I told her she's now the proud owner of a bootleg DVD set and an incomplete manual. -

It's likely her paypal account was hacked. If that's the case, then the bootleggers probably already had a chance to withdraw their money (so they haven't lost anything by not receiving your returned merchandise) and your refund will show as a negative against this woman's paypal balance.

Years ago, my Ebay account got hacked and I didn't find out until I received an email from someone with a question about a car I was selling!!! I certainly was not selling a car of any kind, but there was the listing, with my Ebay ID. Ebay resolved the problem quickly, but I had to change email accounts and passwords just to be safe.
