I've been following this thread with interest because my neck flared up about 2 months ago - lots of popping, cracking and pain. I need to see my doctor, but I'm putting it off until I get a major project off my desk at work. In the meantime, lots of massages - which feels great, but only lasts a short while.
Carol
Carol, I hope and pray that you feel better soon. I don't think that I should lift any weights over my head any more, and I most likely will never lift over 10 pounds again. Bringing in groceries (especially watermelon) is a challenge. Taking out the garbage is a no-no also. My family is helping a lot, but they're not always around when I need help. In my very humble opinion, be careful about massage. Every time I've seen a doctor and PT about my issue, and I'm not saying that your issue is exactly like mine, I have been told to be cautious about massage. I may consider gentle massage in that area when I heal, but I won't do it before. I hope that you feel better after your project at work is done.

Thank you, Donna. I ordered it! My relatives are coming down on Sunday with all these goodies.

I am also following this thread.
Diana, I am so sorry. Praying for your healing also. Yes, no overhead weight work. I wouldn't mind getting acupressure massage, but most probably after I heal. I'm too cautious to do it now. I'm worried that the ones here may do more damage.

not swimming, but have you considered aquatic therapy?

you can strengthen muscles while standing upright in a pool, body submerged, leveraging the buoyancy of the water to lessen the strain on your spine. i'm not an instructor, but you could inquire.

my DH's professor in college used to teach aquatics - DH was a PE major.

I envy your dh's major! Dh and I used to take aquatic therapy when we lived in San Diego more than 20 years ago. I found some videos and will try them out soon. Thank you for your suggestion!

Negin, I'm sorry you are having to go through this!

I really like the Janice Novak DVD. (I have the thank Jeannine for mentioning her in a thread a while back.)

I hope you start feeling better soon. I ordered the Janice Novak dvd and will see if it helps with my own neck issues. Thanks for starting this thread.

Thank you.
I searched many past threads here and I'm quite sure that I heard about the Janice Novak DVD from Jeannine also.
Everyone here has been so helpful. Although this is not something that will ever go away, at least I hope that I can manage the symptoms.

Suzanne, I hope that the DVD helps with your neck issues also.

I have been so looking forward to hopefully receiving all my goodies tomorrow night. Now I'm not sure if and when I will. I ordered them to my relatives in Florida. Now with Dorian approaching them, I'm not sure if they'll be coming after all. Selfish of me to be thinking of my order, I know. I just hope that I get them eventually. They're not the type to mail them to me later or anything I like that. Well, I'll have to wait and see what tomorrow brings. I wish that Dorian and all future hurricanes would just disappear. I hate them. We had a major one here back in 2004. Those things terrify me.

Thanks to all for recommending this DVD. I did the upper body segment today and loved it.

I ordered the book so I have a reference to use when I don’t have access to my DVD player.

It's been over two months since I started this thread. I traveled to another island nearby to see some specialists. Yes, I have cervical spondylosis. We already knew that. Then they did a nerve conduction test and it turns out that I have bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. What a relief to finally know for sure! We are so grateful. So from here on out, my focus will be on relieving the CTS. Thank you all so much for the helpful suggestions.

Glad you got a diagnosis and it’s not your neck. Best wishes for a fast recovery!
