In the Heat of the Night was filmed, in part, in a small town near where I lived in southern Illinois. It was a big deal! I have been a Sidney Poitier fan ever since. I have a friend who lived in that town and she knew a local girl (we were 8) who played a small roll in that film.

CBS Sunday morning is showing an interview with Sidney Portier from a few years ago. It should be up on their site.

I want to see which of his movies are streaming. I admit to not having seen many of them.

That's a cool story.

RIP Sidney. He was a great talent and his films were memorable. My favorite was Lillies of the Field.

I am shocked to see a breaking news announcement on Yahoo saying Bob Saget, who played Danny Tanner on Full House, has died

Thanks for posting this...

I loved Poitier in Sneakers, too

ETA: I just watched Saget as a guest on I can see your voice...so sad.

Actor Dwayne Hickman has died at the age of 87. Probably best known for portraying Dobie Gillis, he played in a number of roles in the 50’s and 60’s. He always seemed nice when I saw him interviewed. RIP

Dobie Gillis and Maynard G. Krebs!! I loved Zelda, too. I read that he died from complications of Parkinsons. RIP.

Yes, omg I was really shocked and saddened by this. I grew up on Full House and America's Funniest videos and always had a fondness for him. When I found out that his stand-up material was much raunchier and risque than his TV persona indicated? I fell in love!

From the statements by his friends, family and co-workers, he was just a truly kind, caring and encouraging person who wanted the best for everybody--which is apparently a rarity in Hollywood. The tributes to him on social media, etc are just lovely. RIP Bob.

He also had an older sister who passed away at 34 from a brain aneurysm.
