One of the libraries near me is taking book donations again, so it's been a huge relief to get rid of some things. It's been on my to-do list for years, but then when things shut down and I couldn't donate, it made it easier to actually decide what to let go of. My reading preferences seem to have shifted, permanently, plus I had a ton of my dad's old mystery novels.

I wish the library near me was taking donations again. I am going to donate to the Vietnam Vets instead.

In the wee hours of the morning, I got up and went to my tv/exercise/WFH room. Yikes!!! It looks awful. So this morning, I took 20 minutes and cleaned out one spot. Threw out stuff. Well one corner is done. Tomorrow I am moving stuff out and then decide what can go back in. A year+ working from home and I need to refresh and renew this room.

Thanks to all of you I am motivated to get it done.

way to go. baby steps. and you motivate me too!

i decluttered one corner in my bedroom because I was looking for something*. i like to read before bed, so the area accumulates reading material galore. got rid of a lot of magazines and just dumped them in the trash. it really cleared up!

i also purged several old clothes - donation or just threw away.

*i was looking for one of my checkbooks from 2020 in doing our taxes. it's a sad commentary that you are forced to go through junk and purge things because you can't find something, and you can't find it because there's so much stuff! it turns out that I ALREADY had the checkbook in my stack of supporting documents - I was getting confused because it was late at night.

My decluttering efforts seem to be paying off.

I had a friend in for a socially distanced lunch today, and it really didn't take a huge amount of effort to get things tidy enough to suit me.

Sure, anything related to craft supplies and recipes is a bit messy, but the rest of my space actually looks pretty good.

One huge factor was that after cleaning out closets and drawers, I have space available to store things.

Was it perfectly tidy? No, but good enough is good enough.

I found a cake pan that I was going to sell on FB marketplace last year but couldn't find it when it sold (not kidding.) I am giving it to my son's MIL who also said she would take 2 tablecloths. So I will soon have only 9....

I still have a box of graphic novels to donate-would prefer to give it to an organization that helps kids with reading disabilities/autism.
I decided to save the evening dresses to donate to the women's shelter consignment shop when it opens up.
Plan on having a bag and a box ready to add things to as I go through my closet again soon.

That's one of my favorite benefits of decluttering! Less work/stress when friends/family (or heck, even the orkin man) stop by or come to stay with us (don't worry--the orkin man never comes to stay! ).

I picked up a yoga mat in the store. I own three and only use one. I don't need another yoga mat. I kept talking myself into buying it. I got up to the counter and told the cashier I wasn't buying it.

Yes!!!
