Do you love your barbell?

If you love your barbell, tell me what kind you have and where I can buy it.
thanks in advance!

I love my Firm Barbell - bought directly from the Firm - not as big as a regular barbell but works really well. You can't buy it anymore but I've always loved it.

I would love to find a barbell like this. I had it initially, but then "lost" it over the years.

I have and love my Iron Grip Group Strength barbell. I like the way you can grip the plates to use as weights on their own, like the bar, the clamps, etc.

http://www.irongrip.com/products/groupstrength.asp

I emailed back and forth with them to get a price, then sent them a money order to pay for it. Worked fine.

On the other hand, when I found a Weider Pink Fitness kit for a ridiculously low price, I got one of those too. Not available any more, but here's a link so you can see it.

I remember people getting and liking a set by Troy, but can't find the bookmark in my files any more. Maybe search the boards?

I've had my 55" Long 55 lb barbell set for 6 years now. The bar itself weighs 4lbs. I did end up buying more plates. Especially important for me to slowly increase my weight were the 1.25lb and 2.5lb plates. The barbell set is still available on amazon for $45. Looks like the bad reviews were mostly the terrible clamps, the shipping package with possible damaged/missing weights and the light 1" 4lb bar. People who have lifted before are probably used to the much heavier 2" olympic bar that allows heavier weights above 140lbs. I had no problems except I did buy a set of quick release barbell clamps because the ones that came with it were 'a pain' to use. I've used the bar with weight up to 140lbs and many times with Cathe STS. I would buy it again if I had to do it over.

I couldn't find the ones I bought but here's a quick release barbell clamp set for a 1" barbell.

1.25lb 1" plates

2.5lb 1" plates

US Weights heavier set 105lbs.

Another thing to consider is how much weight you'll be lifting.

I've never needed or wanted anything but a lightweight bar and just a few weight plates.

Will you be lifting heavier than that? It might affect your buying choices.

I've had this other bar bookmarked for ages, but I'm unlikely to ever get one. I think some people here have tried them, maybe they'll chime in?

Oh, and the Lock-Jaw 1" barbell collars that came with my Iron Grip barbell set are really quite good. I think they've maybe been redesigned since I bought mine, so I can't speak to whatever they're making now.

The Weider bar and plates fit together quite differently, with another sort of system to secure the plates, but it works fine.

I missed that boat when The Firm was selling off their barbells.

i have a Danskin padded barbell which is very similar to The Firm's. it came with plastic-coated plates, but it can take standard plates too. the fastener is a pin-style, which allows for a quick release. i also read that the Ivanko brand is similar to The Firm barbell.

I also have a curl bar that DH bought me from Sports Authority, which can hold a lot of plates. the curl bar weighs about 10# by itself. the fasteners are the "screw" coupling style. i found a set of plates at a garage sale that also came with shorter handles that allow me to make heavy dumbbells with the plates.

i have a couple of bodybars in different weights too.

We have two Firm barbells and they are THE best! I’m surprised that someone hasn’t copied the design. It’s a really solid barbell.
