Element Hatha & Flow Yoga For Beginners

I just tried this one for the first time -- loved it!

I'm very much a beginner at yoga, so I'll let others who know more critique the yoga in it. But, for me, it was really enjoyable.

The instructor is Tamal Dodge, whose teaching I liked a lot (in fact, I liked him more than I thought I would from the clips I'd seen). He's got a very sweet-natured style, and gives clear instructions with a good amount of form pointers, gives some modifications (in both directions -- harder and easier), uses both English and Sanskrit names for most of the poses, and intersperses the yoga instruction with some of the physiology involved.

There are two 30 minute workouts -- one Hatha, one Flow, and I only did the Hatha one so far.

There is a short meditation (he doesn't use the word) at the beginning, and another short one at the end.

What else? Erm, it's voice-over (aside from an intro and ending), and it has sound-effect breathing that, depending on your personal style, you'll either find soothing and helpful with the breathing rhythm, or creepy as an obscene phone caller. For me, it was helpful, but I could imagine some might not love it.

I'm looking forward to doing this one again!

Thanks for the review and reminder. I bought this workout a few months ago and I haven't done it yet! He seemed to have a nice calm demeanor in the clips and the flow workout looked good.

I would probably like the breathing because it would help me know when to breath in/out, etc. I also like that it's only 30 minutes.

I just want to agree with the above. I did the Hatha practice the other day and it was wonderful!

Not yet -- how embarrassing! I have it in my stack of "do this next" DVDs -- have to put this one up on the top!

I like Tamal also. I think I posted a review on Amazon when I first received it a few months back. I need to do his DVD more. Just too many workouts...
