Question O/T: Anyone live (or has lived) in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area?

We are checking out places to relocate and this area is on our list.

Does anyone live in the Reno/Tahoe area?

I’ve never lived there but visited many times. I think it would be a good place to live, but cost of living is pretty high.

My friend moved to Truckee in the last year -- they love it so far! That's as close to living there as I get (so far). I know the blogger/podcaster Robb Wolf moved from Reno area to somewhere in Texas in the last couple of years -- perhaps driven by finances, so maybe something to consider.

I have a friend who has a timeshare in Lake Tahoe and absolutely loves it. She wants to retire there. I have visited a couple times but it did not speak to me intensely, it was nice but I did not love. However, there are different areas and I think each little part of the lake has its own vibe. But those who love it really love it.

I have a brother who lives close by, closer to Tahoe than Reno. It's beautiful and they love it. But as others have said, very expensive. He and his wife live very remotely. The nearest town is about 13 miles away.

"city-data.com" forum is a good place to look up information about prospective cities. i looked up towns in my own city a few years ago and i find that the comments are reasonable and the ones that sound extreme are obvious. like anything, find ways to corroborate someone's extreme opinion.

i used google to find these threads:

from 2020:
Salary Needed to Live in South Lake Tahoe without Struggling (Carson City: ski resorts, real estate)

from 2018:
I have a job offer in Reno. Tell me about your city. (Sparks: apartments)

from 2017:
What's not to like about the Reno/Sparks area? (Carson City: for sale, real estate market)

My quick* take on Reno - overall 5.5/10 (rent, job market)

Is Reno a nice area to live? (Sparks, Carson City: apartment, rentals)

Never lived there, but vacationed on the West side of the lake and had a blast. It is a gorgeous area with what seems like something for everyone.
