Love what you wrote about setting a low bar and being consistent in your workouts. Consistency does build results. Needed to read that today. Thank you Susan!

I think that a low bar allowed me to be CONSISTENT, and consistency built real results.

I'm all about setting a low bar now! Because a low bar is a doable thing, and the doing of it gets the ball rolling; then the rolling of the ball gets accumulating results; and accumulating results increase enthusiasm; and increased enthusiasm means you keep going!

On edit, and I can't tell you how much having a ROUTINE has been key. From my last semester of nursing school on, it has been so, so hard to maintain a routine. I'm not sure I really love my job that I have right now. . . but the ROUTINENESS of 8-5 has revolutionized my life.
This has all been true for me too. I've been very careful to workout well within my limits, but to be consistent about it. That one thing has made a HUGE difference for me. I'm almost at the point where I want to step it up, but I'm thinking I'll just stick with this for a while longer just to habituate myself to the routine of it.

What a great come back for you! So encouraging to know if we have set backs, they don't have to be permanent.

Thanks for sharing!

Yes, you can come back! It is hard but so rewarding.

I had major abdominal surgery last year and had to start from scratch with my endurance and strength. I took it slowly and gradually once I was allowed to exercise. It was so rewarding and actually fun because progress was quick.

Then I had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands earlier this year, which meant I couldn't lift weights for a while. So I had to start over again with strength.

In June, I had a repeat of the major abdominal surgery I had last year. Again, no working out (other than walking) for a long time. My endurance is back now and I am slowly getting my strength back. I am finally using moderate weights and am excited about slowly increasing until I get back to what I was using before surgery.

I'm 52 and so grateful for the gift of fitness and the opportunity to keep coming back to my workouts and building up to where I used to be. After the abdominal surgeries, I was so weak that I thought I'd never exercise again and I am so excited and thrilled to be working my way back.
