Oh, Karen, I meant to ask you. When you run do you pay much attention to cadence? MapMyRun keeps telling me my cadence is too low and I'm trying to learn more and understand how you can increase cadence without increasing speed. I'm struggling to grasp the concept. I tried running with a metronome the other day but instead of syncing my stride with it I found my breath trying to sync and that was not good so I turned it off.
I was hoping to do a run streak for June but that's out since I couldn't workout yesterday.

Thanks, Karen. I need to try to record myself running but I'm pretty sure I have a short stride bc if I go too long it really hurts my high hamstring tendons. But my average cadence is generally in the 140s and max in the 160s unless I really focus on trying to pick it up. My cadence is generally within a few beats of my heart rate, actually. I don't know if that's weird or pretty common. I keep seeing that increasing your cadence is supposed to make it feel easier and decrease the risk of injury. I'm thinking about trying the run cadence challenge in the Run Experience app. I made a playlist of songs listed as around 180 bpm so I'll be curious to see if just that helps my turnover rate. This may be one of those concepts I give up on if I can't figure it out or get too frustrated!

Go big or go home. Making a QUADRUPLE batch of pancakes! They freeze so well I figured why not. A couple other notes. I forgot it calls for regular milk. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Saves calories but does sacrifice protein. Also if you make multiple batches and are a little short on pumpkin, unsweetened applesauce works to finish filling the cup.

Today I did a little over an hour on the treadmill, about 6 miles. Two Peloton workouts. One was a progression run, 45 minutes, where you slowly get faster, and then a 20 min HIIT run. The latter was beginner level since I had already done about 4.5 miles.
Vannie I do think it is a good idea to work on increasing cadence if you can because it is supposed to make you more efficient as a runner. But don’t let it make you crazy. Yummy on the pancakes!! Cher thanks for starting us off! |

Thanks for the feedback, Karen. I think I will try that challenge on the app and one of their YT videos also suggested using jump roping to work on increasing cadence so I can do that too. Way to go with the treadmill runs! I struggle mentally on the tm if it's more than half an hour!

My eyes are doing good! Yay! Now I have to go to Retina Specialist just to make sure I don’t have ant retinal tears. They don’t see anything but they said because my eyes were so nearsighted, I’m more prone to retinal tears which can lead to a detached retina. I have an appointment for early July.
Vannie - I have never but BBL but I always think I like the sound of it but a kind VFer (Kate who used to be on this check-in) loaned me it twice and both times I didn’t really like it. I’m getting on that kick again so need to keep telling myself to just forget it! I get that trying not to worry about diseases and things you could get. I get like that with thinking about cancer. My mom and my aunt both had breast cancer and, of course you know about my sister and her kidney cancer. A lot of heart stuff on my dad’s side but I don’t seem to worry about that as much. Yum, on all the pancakes! Karen - It is 6:40 am and already 71 degrees with 80% humidity. It’s going to be a HOT and STICKY day today! I feel like I’m in Florida. Waves JBliff & Gibbee! |
