Crone Cronies - You should read a book for every 10 selfies you take. 10/10

The Cronies is a place for women who are mature in age or attitude. The group is highly diverse in that we have ages ranging from 30s to 60s, some are moms, some are single, some are teachers/professors, and some have jobs and work outside the home and some don’t. We do our own thing and are happy when life doesn’t get in the way too often. Some are training for a marathon, some don’t even do vids, you get the picture.

Life and exercise are what we report. A thread is started every Sunday. Some report every day, others whenever they can.

Bottom line: we are a diverse group and very supportive of each other’s goals. Oh, and we’re funny as heck. If you’d like to join us, just come on down.

Laura, thanks for another title for this thread! But it is the last one in your posting in September. I think I have some more from you in messages though from way back.

I'll be taking Gus for a walk and then Adelija and I will go exploring the area - i might take her to Stillwater, a town on the edge of the St Croix river. I pretty much finished chopping my back yard - only one small area that I forgot to look at, but OK if it doesn't get chopped. Then I'll be on to leaf raking! I'm also trying to figure out where to take Adelija for her teacher's conference break in two weeks and what to do for Halloween or Thanksgiving.

Laura, nice to get a zoom call with your brother! I have to figure out how to place a call on zoom - I've just been a participant on calls.

Paula, Adelija certainly has read more English than spoken it - it takes me two listens to figure out some things she's saying - she says words ending in -ough the same even though the pronunciation is different for that word ending - though vs cough vs through type stuff. I find it kind of cute . Adelija and I would likely have some independence at the WRC - I'd have to learn the evening activities also, but likely we'd be working on different animals.

Waves to all!

Thanks for getting us started, Anita. I'll see if I can rustle up some more themes. Thanks for letting me know this was the last one.

It was another day that just melted away, a mix of relaxing and getting stuff done. I made some "happy holiday" cards (as opposed to "Merry Christmas") and then some general cards with old gel plate prints. I cooked chicken parmesan for both of us. And, of course, we both spent time with Polly.

Paula - How exciting, to plan on having people over for Thanksgiving. The plan at this point for us is to have Thanksgiving here with Mom and Dad and then go to West Virginia for Christmas. We had hoped to go for a visit this fall and then at Christmas, but between the skyrocketing rates of infection there and the fact that some of DH's family don't take precautions and haven't been vaccinated, the fall trip probably won't happen. We'll see what happens closer to Christmas.

Anita - Yeah, I can see how reading a language more than speaking it would lead to some mispronunciations, especially English with all of its exceptions and breaking of rules.

Good evening. Workout this morning was Pahla B Body Shaping Day 6 Walking with Weights and a neighborhood walk with DH.

Today was grocery day. We did a Costco run as well. I picked up a bunch of quilts to deliver to a local women's shelter then I made a big pot of marinara sauce, watered the plants and now I'm sitting here resting for the first time all day. Think I'll sleep good tonight.

Anita, Thanks for getting us started. Interesting theme, I never take selfies so I read more than one book for every 10 selfies I take. Not sure why but I thought it was so cute you're having to listen twice (or more) to what A is saying to know what she means. There are so many oddities in how English is pronounced I think it is a difficult language to learn. I'm sure you're a big help to her.

Laura, I think most families have some members who refuse to get vaccinated and won't wear a mask. It makes it hard to know what to do. Even though I'm fully vaccinated and now have had the booster I'd be reluctant to travel to an area where the infection rates are high. I know I'm now unlikely to get a bad case of COVID requiring hospitalization but I'd prefer not to get it at all.

Good morning!

Planning on walking Gus this morning, and doing some putzing around the house. This evening, I'll be playing Spades, if it comes together, then going to the grocery store with Adelija - she wants to come, thus the later hour. I'm also reviewing centipede control as Adelija has found several downstairs with her - not fun. Poor kid!

Laura, thanks for future titles! I'm sorry, but I've gotten soooooo lazy looking for them. I made up spaghetti last night using the Italian sausages I grilled the night before in the sauce - yummy! Worked well in a red veggie sauce in a bottle - I haven't made this stuff in years!

Paula, I thought of Adelija when I saw the title of this thread - girl loves taking selfies! My brother and his wife are anti-vaccine so not vaccinated - I've not seen them in two years or so because of Covid. I do phone or video talk with them though. I'm done chopping stuff down in my gardens, so enjoying the bit of rest today!

Waves to all!

Today has sort of melted away. I was more motivated to get things done this morning than usual. I did a load of clothes, unloaded the dishwasher and loaded it back, dropped off some library books, and picked up a couple of prescriptions. This afternoon, I took DH to his PT appointment and went to the chiropractor. It's a gray, kinda cool day, but not rainy. Thank goodness; we got PLENTY of rain this past weekend.

I took Spanish from junior high on. In college, I double majored in business and Spanish. I was always amazed how easy Spanish was compared to English. The letters are always pronounced the same. There aren't the exceptions to grammar and spelling like we have in English.

Anita - I feel like I've gotten lazy about starting the thread, so if supplying you with themes (something easy for me) makes that easier for you, I'm all for it. We're in it together here in the Cronies check-in! My mouth watered at your description of the spaghetti. It sounds good!

Paula - I got the impression that the theme was aimed at younger folk. Many of them probably wouldn't see the humor in it. I'm seeing a theme about good with you and Anita. Back when the Delta variant was taking hold, DH and saw an expert on TV who said that you don't get the vaccine to avoid the virus altogether, but to minimize the effects of it if you get it. I looked at DH and said that I got the vaccine so I don't get it at all. That's why we take the precautions we do.

Good evening. Workout this morning was Karen Voights Floor Stretch and a short neighborhood walk with DH.

Anita, yeah, I think taking selfies is a younger generation thing. Yesterday after we got home I made a big pot of marinara sauce and ended up freezing enough for 6 dinners for DH and I. It always makes an easy dinner when we're tired to have pasta and sauce. I feel for you not wanting to see your BIL and SIL since they are unvaccinated. I wouldn't either even though I'm fully vaccinated.

Laura, I'm with you that I got the vaccine in order not to get COVID. On the other hand I know the vaccine alone will not fully prevent infection. But if you do get COVID the infection should be milder. I know two people who have gotten COVID after being fully vaccinated and both had mild cases. My friend is a geratic nurse - she got COVID early on from her patients and had to isolate at home and had a rough time. This was before there was a vaccine. Later after she was fully vaccinated, she got it again from her patients. The second time she had a much easier time of it - she thinks repeated eposure was the culprit because most of her elderly patients were very ill. The other person is my niece - single mom to two boys. She's fully vaccinated but the boys aren't - they're too young. The older boy got it (she thinks at school) he ended up in the pediatric ICU, very sick. Her younger son tested positive but was asymtomatic, she tested positive but only felt as though she had a mild cold - of course she was exhausted with one son in the hospital. Her Dad came and stayed with the younger son so she could be at the hospital. Both boys are now home, she's home and feeling normal. So, I'm a firm believer that even if you get it after vacination, you're much, much, better off. Of course we're still doing the other precautions, I'm a firm believer in wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands.

Good morning!

I bought a new iPad! I can now play a game online with friends without problems (old iMac was from 2009). I still have to start an iCloud collection of my photos from my old computer and transfer some documents to iCloud before getting rid of my old computer. My project for the day... I'll also be walking Gus . Yesterday I came up with a great spaghetti dinner - the white creamy sauce in a bottle with frozen shrimp put in it (all heated ) - - oh my gosh, that was good!

Laura, I started Spanish at about the same time as you and took a semester of Spanish at the university to transfer a number of credits for it - the Spanish at the university was HARD! Lots different than high school - may just be a different instructor compared to three years with the same one. I'm surprised that the booster Covid vaccinations coming haven't been reformulated to cover some of the new variants out there.

Paula, I may have to go in for a Covid check before my colonoscopy - not fun for either procedure. I think I'll be negative, but frankly now that I'm living with a high schooler, it could get carried home pretty easily.

Waves to all!

It was another busy day. I feel like I've been in catch-up mode this week. I did a pick-up at Publix this morning. After lunch, I took DH to a dental appointment where he had a crown put on and they had to cut into his gum some. He's not feeling the best tonight. After dropping him off, I went to Harris Teeter to get the things I couldn't get or forgot at Publix. In between some of that stuff, I did some art journaling.

Anita - Yuck. COVID test to get ready for a colonoscopy. I hope it all goes as well as it can. How did your tech tasks go? The best teacher I ever had in any of my schooling ever was my Spanish professor in college. I not only took Spanish language classes from her, but classes that covered cultural issues. She made classes so interesting. I got to know her outside of class junior year when I was president of the Spanish Club and swore we were going to actually do stuff. Pretty much anything I came up with, she helped me figure out how to make it happen (or vice versa when she came up with ideas). Before the Christmas break, she teased me that we had done more in that semester than the club had done in the previous two years. It was a fun year for me.

Paula - It's good to hear that you know people who had milder cases after getting the vaccine. I had heard that on the news, but it's always nice to hear about actual people not on TV where it happened. 6 meals in the freezer is great!
