Another Sleep Number bed vote. We tried one years ago in a hotel and thought they were horrible. It felt like two pool floats lashed together with a rigid divider in the middle and around the edges. They have improved tremendously. The separate air chambers are not as obvious and there is a layer of memory foam over top. My husband and I have wildly different settings, so that tells you right there that there is no "one size fits all" mattress. It was the best purchase we made last year.

I'm glad you've asked this question because I've been struggling with it too. I just can't decide what to do, so I put a foam topper on my old mattress. It helps, but I really do want to settle in a new bed someday.

I'm on my 2nd Tempurpedic. I bought it a little bit over a year ago. I'm also a side sleeper. The first night of my new Tempurpedic was pretty miserable. I was prepared I'd have to break it in, so was ready for just a really bad week of sleeping, but surprisingly, even the 2nd night was great. So I only did 1 rough night of sleeping. I also switched to exclusively latex pillows in the last year +, too and I'll never go back to memory foam (even though my mattress is memory foam) or down or polyester fill.

Yeah, there are so many factors in deciding what mattress is right for you. Surprisingly, the most comfortable mattress I bought was a $100 mattress in a box. I got in on Amazon for a spare bed, but I ended up swapping it out with my mattress.

I'm really disappointed with this mattress but it will probably be more of a PIA to ship it back than to keep it. That was my main reason for NOT wanting a mail order mattress. So, now I feel like I'm back to square one. I'm considering getting another foam topper for this new bed but still don't know if even that will help. It's sooooooo frustrating!

Thanks for mentioning pillows, I hadn't thought about switching things up. I think I need an update. None of the local stores carry latex pillows, though. Guess I need to do some research.

Got any pointers?
