I went down the rabbit hole of nutrition for muscle development about 18 months ago. I was not even close to eating enough protein. The two things that I found that helped the most were essential amino acids and creatine. The essential amino acids are a protein that comes as a powder. They taste awful! And I really mean awful! But they are zero calories and they are also instantly absorbed because They don’t have to be digested. I just add a scoop (mixed in about an ounce of kombucha to hide the taste) to each meal. But I really think the creatine made the most difference.

And creatine is being shown to help people as they age. It helps brain function and is shown to also help people with depression.
It literally is one of the most researched supplements out there and is so good for you.

Do you need to take the creatine in powder form or do capsules work just as well?

I prefer the powder. Zero taste, super inexpensive. I put it in with my protein powder or any other liquid.

It really doesn’t matter where you get it. I would get the creatine monohydrate form. Other forms of creatine are more expensive but don’t work any better. I prefer to make sure it’s the brand-name Creapure that they use because it’s so well tested. I happen to use the nutricost brand right now. But I’ve had others that worked fine also.

I get mine from Bodybuilding.com to be honest. But you can get it pretty much anywhere. Depending on the brand, it usually is less than 1 dollar a day.
And yes, the creatine monohydrate is the best form to take. Don't worry about "Loading" which is taking more than one serving a day for a couple weeks. Just take 5gms a day and call it good.

I did a little poking around about creatine and see what you all are saying about how it can help with aging. One thing I saw suggested that because it can increase water retention, it can cause weight gain. Has anyone found this to be the case?

Debra Atkinson/FlippingFifty talks a lot about the importance of protein for muscle building after menopause, and has a lot of podcasts on the subject.
