Good to hear she is recovering. I hope she does take it slow and easy, as she says.

I hope she realizes that she has to rest that leg for a long time and does the Boxing workouts first.

One of the positive sides of Cathe being so fit is how fast the healing and recovery seem to be going!

My boss had knee surgery last October. Much more major than what Cathe had done. They wanted him moving that knee by day 2.

This was probably done by a scope, and by removing what was causing the problem, it allows much faster recovery.

I know you do, Hedgy. I admit being biased towards the boxing workouts Cathe mentioned and all, but I think they really would be the way to start her return to this series.

That would be the logical sequence.

I've had 3 lower back surgeries. The last one was a fusion, and my mean orthopaedic surgeon wanted me up and walking the very next day! I told him he was nuts. Sure enough, just as soon as I sat up, and tried to stand up, I started to get really sick. The nurse took one look at me and said that I wasn't ready. I then proceeded to throw up all over the place. My body didn't respond well to the morphine drip.

They really do want you up and walking ASAP.

Aw Debbie, I'm sorry you had such a difficult time! I hope the surgeon/nurse explained to you why they wanted you up and walking so soon after surgery; people who have had recent surgery are more at risk for developing deep vein thrombosis and walking helps decrease the chances of developing DVTs (exercising the muscles of the lower legs promotes better circulation through the veins and it reduces the chances of a clot formation).

One of the biggest complications is that the blood clot could break off and travel to your lungs. Of course other factors contribute to the risk of developing DVTs post surgery, such as being over 40 years old, medical history, physical condition, medications taken and prolonged immobility post surgery. Anyway, it's a catch 22 since being up and about with morphine in your system isn't the easiest thing to do! And the nurse is the one (not the surgeon) who has to assess how soon/safely you can start walking post op.

That would be nice, but it wouldn't necessarily make those who still have preorders in very happy!
