What can I replace SparkPeople with?

I intermittently used SparkPeople to track my fitness and nutrition, especially when I really needed to rein it in. It was a really great site, especially considering it was free. They also had a great conversation/message forum that included all kinds of topics that I really appreciated. It has gone dark since Aug of 2021

Is there anything out there that would be similar to Spark? I liked that it saved my favorite foods and if my food wasn't listed, I could list it myself by using all the nutritional information on the package. That was a great feature b/c then all my most eaten foods were easliy available to enter. I used it mostly to monitor my macros and calories, but I also entered in my workouts and other notes.

I really liked the 'free' aspect of Spark. However, I would consider paying a small fee. I only use my laptop, so I don't want an app since I don't have a smartphone. I would really like a software option that I could buy and have forever and not need the internet since I don't always have good internet service. However, I don't even know if such a thing exists. I would also like the privacy aspect of using my own software as opposed to using a website to track nutrition/fitness.

I thought this would be the best place to get an idea of what others are using and to find an alternative to SparkPeople. Thanks in advance for your input!

I used Sparkpeople quite a bit and was disappointed that it shut down. I checked out a few calorie counting sites (Calorie King and MyFitessPal) and did not like them. Then I ran across a site called MyFatSecret (fatsecret.com). Yes, not a fan of the name but it has a big nutritional database. I have lost 17 pounds so far.

I also found a great site that calculates calories and nutrition for recipes. https://happyforks.com/analyzer.

I also only use my desktop for internet, so these sites work out great for my computer.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for that Sherri!

It seems that everything is geared toward apps these days, so I'm really glad to have another alternative to look at.

Spark had soooooo much information on it. It's a shame that it's all gone

I like cronometer.com They have a free membership and also a paid membership that has more features. I just use the free version.

I recently switched to Cronometer from MyFitnessPal after MFP put the barcode scanner behind a paywall.

FitDay.com had all of these features, but today, i just learned that only their Discussion Board remains! They kept their articles on the site too.

This announcement said "as of November" but the year is missing from the announcement, so i have no idea when this happened.

Even if you don't have a FitBit, the app itself should be useable for free - has tracking & saves favourite/frequent/custom foods... It also has lots of groups - including nutrition related. I don't imagine it's going to disappear anytime soon.

I've been missing Sparkpeople, too. I used it a lot for many years. I installed Cronometer on my phone, but I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I would prefer a website I can use on my laptop.

I've got that on my phone, but I just can't get excited about it. I didn't consider that I could maybe use it on my laptop? Will check it out.

I use Cronometer about half on my phone mostly when I need to scan something and half on my laptop, for inputting food I already have listed in there.

I actually prefer it on my laptop

Sollamyn, I only use Cronometer on my laptop and I really like it! I have never used Cronometer on my phone.

On your laptop just go to:

https://cronometer.com/
