Resistance bands -- loops, not bands

My PT wants me to strengthen my hips to help my back. She uses some heavy duty thing that looks like huge handcuffs that strap around your ankles. I've had knee problems on and off my whole life so I would feel better placing a band above the knee so as not to stress the joint when I do side steps. I forgot to ask her about that.

I've been looking for a type of resistance band that is like a giant, wide rubber band, like a loop, to wear above my knees for side stepping. All I can find are the kind with handles or long, flat ribbons. Am I imagining that I saw a loop type? If I could find it in the store I'd have it in time for my session next week.

Aack! Never mind. Just found them at Big 5!

Is this what you are looking for? Amazon has it, but you would probably find it at a fitness specialty store too.

Search "resistance band loops" on Amazon. Is that what you're looking for?

You would have thought I was looking for the Holy Grail. Called every sporting goods store in a ten mile radius before I found the Go Fit Power Loops at Big 5 and a coupon for 10% off.

Do you think they will be just as effective worn above the knee as at the ankles when doing squat sidestepping?

These look like Cathe's Firewalker bands which is what I thought you were talking about when I saw the post. Cathe has them for sale on her site but these look like they're made of better quality to be honest. I just did firewalker steps in my leg workout yesterday with Cathe and boy did she have my hips screaming for mercy. They work so good. Good luck with the ones you got.

take a look at the perform better website for bands. My PT ordered all of their stuff from perform better:

I second the recommendation for Perform Better. My coach had me use the black band (the hardest) around my ankles for squat sidesteps to wake up my glutes and hamstrings before I do kettlebells. Wowza, I break a sweat just from 10 reps.

In your case, I'd go lighter since you want it to stretch more so you can wear it higher. Yes, I think above the knees would be just as effective.

I also got mine from perform better. They have held up really well. I store them in a drawer (out of sunlight). I usually put the band around my shins/calves.

I used them tonight as part of my Margaret floorwork for lying side leg lifts. Couldn't figure out how to use them for inner thighs so I don't think I'll get much use out of them other than for the prescribed stepping. Easier to use leg weights.
