yoga for strength, recommendations?

What are some good "strength yoga" workouts for a beginner? Well, intermediate in general but beginner to that KIND of workout?

Instead of three strength workouts per week I'd like to do two, plus one strength-building yoga type workout.

Well ..

A good vinyasa or flow-style yoga class seems to hit my muscles pretty good. Baron Baptiste's "Soul of Strength" seems to hit most of the major muscle groups. Total Yoga Fire is one that can be challenging as well (but if you aren't used to loads of sun salutations, you may want to skip it).

I agree with the idea that most Vinyasa flows will build strength.

If I had to list some in order of difficulty it might go something like this:

Baron Baptiste:

Power Yoga Basics (from "Transform Your Life" )
Journey Into Power Level 1
Power and Precision
Journey Into Power Level 1 or Soul of Strength

You could also incorporate Baron's "Core Power" which will work on Core and Back muscles as well. Once you get to something like Journey Into Power Level 2 or Soul Of Strength you would also be ready for Bryan Kest's Energize (from his earlier series).

You could also work w/ Rodney Yee's Power Yoga For Beginners Series which would be in this order:

Stamina
Flexibility
Strength

To be honest, I can't do most of the arm balances in Strength. They not only require strength but a certain amount of Hip flexibility to get yourself in some of the necessary positions. I barely use that one.

Of course you could mix them up also:

Power Yoga Basics (Baptiste)
Power Yoga Stamina (Yee)
Journey Into Power Level 1 (Baptiste)
Power Yoga Flexibility (Yee)
Power and Precision (Baptiste)
Journey Into Power Level 2 or Soul of Strength (Baptiste) or Energize (Kest)

The Total Yoga programs are excellent as well, Fire is VERY challenging, the others are considerably less difficult. I'd put them in this order:

Total Yoga

Earth
Water
Original
Fire

If you want to try Ashtanga type Yoga then David Swenson's "Short Forms" are excellent and contains a 15, 30 and 45 minute program of varying difficulty.

These are just some suggestions but there are many others to choose from

Best,

Scott

Yes, it would be hard to top the strength benefits of Forrest yoga.

Hard Body Yoga with Tari Rose. This is my favorite. They had it on collagevideo.com so if you are interested you can check there. She also has a website I believe.
