I used to stir them in water and let them expand and just eat them. However, I can't say I ever noticed any difference when I did so I stopped. I may start putting them in smoothies. I did still take a vitamin, yes. I don't think they cover everything you need there. As for brands, I just get whatever Earth Fare has in stock.

I make an overnight "in the jar" oatmeal that I got off skinnytaste.

Basically:
1/4 cup quick oats
1/2 cup skim or almond milk
1 pkg sweetener of choice
1/2 apple chopped
Tbs chopped pecans
1/3 banana
1/2 tbs chia seeds
Dash of vanilla
Dash of cinnamon

Put all this in a jar. Shake. Wake up and eat.

I still take a multivitamin......

Chia is a omega 6/3 fiber, mineral power house. I still take a multi-vitamin. Great fuel... I put them in my water and yogurt : ) and pancakes. I love those black little things...

I also use chia seeds in overnight oats. My two favorite versions at the moment:

Pumpkin overnight oats:
1/4 cup rolled oats
2 Tbsps steel-cut oats
1/4 cup pumpkin purée (I make my own)
2 Tbsps chia seeds
Pumpkin pie spice
1 cup homemade almond milk

Chocolate-cherry overnight oats:
1/4 cup rolled oats
2 Tbsps steel-cut oats
2 Tbsps chia seeds
Sprinkle cinnamon
1/2 Tbsp raw cocoa
Dried cherries
1 cup homemade almond milk

In the morning I add 1 Tbsp maca powder and some fresh fruit.

Boy guys are good . Thanks for the suggestions on how else to use them. I was just adding 1 teaspoon to my smoothie.

I bought the whit organic. I don't even know what the natural color of a chia is.

Okay, Pie on the making oatmeal the night before, do you refrigerate it ?

Cowgirl: in pancakes, are they crunchy or do they soften up?

Fuzzie: what cooks the steel cut oars? That must leave them more how do I say, hard in your mouth? I tried those one time and they took over 1/2 hour to cook, now I just use instant oats.

If you make the batter and let it sit over night in the fridge(covered) it will soften a great deal. If you make the batter the morning of it will be crunchy. I don't mind the crunchy : ) ...

They don't cook but they soften quite a bit after soaking for at least 12 hours (I actually make a big batch for a few days). I like to use a bit of steel-cut oats to add some chewiness but if you prefer you can just use 1/3 cup rolled oats.

Another silly question - do you microwave to heat up or just eat cold?
