RedPanda, thanks for the response. That's interesting.
If it's 25 miles a week in addition to normal amounts of walking, how much do they expect people are walking to begin with? It seems like this is basically a suggestion of how to work in fitness into your daily life without actually feeling like you're working out. That's what my sisters both do -- they try to walk a lot but are really not interested in formal workouts.

In reading Anne Fletcher's book Thin for Life (much of which is based on people at the weight loss registry), she said that in her experience 10% of the people who maintain a substantial weight loss can do so without exercise. The other 90% have to exercise to maintain.

It's an interesting discussion. I don't discount it because I know that my natural tendencies, if I let them loose, would put me right back where started. So, I have to exercise consistently and watch what I eat all the time. It has just become a lifestyle. I tend to do more intensive cardio exercising than walking and include strength training and think helps with my doing what I need to in order to keep the weight off.

So many "experts" hone in on walking, and only walking. I wish they would include a broader variety of examples of exercise.
