Ballet Bares

Hi!

I would like to start doing more ballet related workouts and I know a lot require the use of a bare. I was wondering at how one would going about buying an inexpensive or building a bare. Any help is appreciated!!

Apart from the Fluidity set, no barre workout that I am familiar with actually requires a barre. You can just use a kitchen/dining room chair with a back that is somewhere between waist and hip height. You absolutely do NOT need a barre.

That said, I like having a barre so installed a wall-mounted 5ft one that wasn't very expensive to put together. The specialty brackets were about $30 and the 1.75" diameter pine dowel was about $15.

hey Delt,

if you type in "barre" over in the equipment forum, there's many threads on homemade barres:

~ clothes rack (ballerinas use these) against the couch
~ galvanized pipe w/ insulation padding (i tried this and ended up returning the pipes because the "plugs" cut my hands before i added the insulation ~ i suggest trying PVC pipe - less dangerous)
~ wall mounted yoga ropes and barres (see this post and many others written by cinza, a VFer)
~ saw horse from Lowes (or Home Depot)
