Talking I am the best fitness instructor ever!

For me anyway.

I had one of those cardio stress tests on the treadmill yesterday. The folks there were OK, but not much for the personalized aspect. No one asked if I had any joint issues that might make the test problematic. I do have some, but figured I'd be OK on a treadmill. (I hate treadmills and haven't even been on one in probably 10-15 years.)

As far as form pointers - I received ONE. "Take longer steps to make it easier."

Here is what my favorite fitness instructor (ME!) said to me during the seven minute progressively harder session:

* Stand up straight
* Keep your abs engaged
* Shoulders back and down
* Don't lock your knees
* Eyes forward, not down
* Keep your weight evenly balance between hips
* Don't pound your feet into the treadmill
* Breathe deeply and regularly

VF Friends, I have to say that being a VFer becomes more and more valuable as I age. (I'll be 66 soon.)

You cannot count on anyone to do the right thing. You must be your own advocate.

(And, sometimes, your own fitness instructor!)

Way to go! And you're right, we do need to be our own advocate!

And Alta, you can be my fitness instructor any time.

I can read between the lines and I'm thrilled!! No one else guessed, or wanted to say anything, but Alta's post is really a pre-announcement of an announcement that a treadmill workout is coming soon. It has to be!

Of course it is! But we will all wait with bated breath to see if a tin foil hat is included in the treadmill workout system!

I discovered this in spades in my 30s when doctors misdiagnosed and mis prescribed several times, but I really understood it when menopause hit.

I agree 100%!
(and hope your test went well)

For me, this could also be a "because of VF" thread.

Because of VF, I...
  • have exercised consistently for over 25 years (53 now)
  • tried yoga for the first time
  • became a yoga teacher
  • am a better yoga teacher because of my breadth of experience via videos
  • started using kettlebells
  • know how to modify what I do to be right for my body
  • have at least basic familiarity with virtually every exercise trend and movement system out there
  • have an amazing support system both fitness and for life!!!

(I'm sure I could go on, but you get the idea. )
