Day 9

Today I did (still in the shrink) Hot Yoga for Beginners with Matt Giordano! I looked to see that I bought this one just over five years ago along with his Gaiam Athletic Yoga:Yoga for Runners, which I liked the few times I did it.

Pros
  • Matt is hot (cute) for a much younger guy/yogi!
  • He doesn't talk a lot during voiceover.
  • Workout isn't as intimidating as I expected, so very do-able.
  • My stalker self thinks he lives in Connecticut.
  • Keeper, as my younger self would be very interested in Matt.

Cons
  • Matt is hot (cute) so I wanna just watch him, but I should be working out!
  • Since he doesn't talk much, there isn't much instruction or form pointers.
  • Not for an absolute beginner (see above.)
  • No introduction by Matt, like there was with his Yoga for Runner's DVD.
  • With "beginner' in the title, you'd think he'd explain what "hot" yoga is.

Pam, I don't think I knew Matt had another DVD! His post-run practice from Yoga for Runners is my favorite and most used after runs. I actually have it memorized so i can do it while i watch baseball if i run at night!

I should go check my shelves. I would feel quite embarrassed if I discover Hot Yoga for Beginners there!

I love this and I have to agree wholeheartedly!

Day 9

Ellen Barrett: 7-Day Workout Challenge -Day 2

I’ve done other workouts on the DVD, but not this one. It’s 15 minutes of cardio that’s nice as a warm up for yoga or just to refresh yourself if you’re feeling drowsy. I enjoyed it.

John Friend: Growing A Lotus

This is a live instructional yoga class. The purpose is to open the hips and move into a lotus pose.

I thought there were some good tips on alignment. They helped me get deeper into the poses. I liked the class, but probably wouldn’t do it often.

Ah Pam, this is why most Gilad dvds take extra long to get through

Day 9 - Minna Lessig One Minute Workout - 35 minutes for Upper Body. At least, I think it was 35 minutes. It kept going and going. The only reason why I knew that the dvd may not be correct as far as time is because I know around what time I started. I may have gone longer than 35 minutes even though I set it for 35 minutes. That makes me sit on the fence with this one. I have my phone timer timing the workout right now, so we'll see if it actually went over.

DAY 10 (July 20, 2021) youtube virgin

2021 (Daniel Bartlett)
Body Project: Gentle total body low impact beginner workout (with 5/8 lb dumbbells)

Due to body soreness, I was looking for an easier workout. This was all right, but perhaps too easy (and I'm not looking for a motivational talk -- I'm already motivated to work out).

I bet I could spend 20 days working out with my Gilad virgins. No problem.

I would choose Brett Hoebel. I'm all over jumping jacks when he says jump!

Karla25, is that from the Rhinebeck series that also featured Lakshmi Loves Me and two others? I had that them all at one point. Agree, his instructions really got me to a level in poses I hadn't experienced. The blossoming buttocks stuff was off-putting though, and they were long, so I forwarded them on.

Day 11 dustbunny Hard Body Yoga

I have been hanging on to this for years because I really enjoyed it back in the day. I pulled it out as today's add on.

I was only going to do the ab section, which I loved, it's staying out on the shelf.
I went ahead and did the stretch as well. The stretch is nothing special but, I am waaay more flexible now in my 50's than I was in my 30's.

Day 10

Today I began with a look at YogaWorks and the AM Wake-Up practice. I thought all of the practices had been instructed by Patty, but I discovered Billy teaches the AM segment, so he was new-to-me and a very pleasant instructor!

Next I pulled out Kate Potter's Namaste:5 Elements in Yoga. I did the Pitta practice (twice.) This DVD is one I haven't done yet, and have had it for a while, though have done the Seasons many times.

5 Elements is based on the Ayurveda philosophy of using various elements to correct body imbalances (whether physical or mental.) Kate has a brief segment about it, but I skipped it and went straight to the yoga. I'm familiar with the 5 Elements having done Lee Holden's DVDs, as well as a few other yoga workouts....Tara Lee, Ganga White and Tracey Rich, BellyFit, etc.

From wikipedia it says this.... an excess of vata is blamed for mental, nervous, and digestive disorders, including low energy and weakening of all body tissues. Similarly, excess pitta is blamed for blood toxicity, inflammation, and infection. Excess of kapha is blamed for increase in mucus, weight, edema, and lung disease, etc.

The three shorter practices are Pitta, Vata and Kapha. There is a longer 40 minute Fire Fan sequence, plus some breath work and meditation. The Pitta and Vata sequence seem to be more relaxing than the more energetic Kapha practice.

Best thing about Namaste and any of them....
  • Beautiful Scenery
  • Beautiful choreography and flow
  • Beautiful cinematography
  • Kate's beautiful voice
  • Shorter sessions

Is this a must have DVD? Well, no. Especially when compared to the other Seasons...more value and more episodes per Season. I have yet to do anything else on this particular DVD so time will tell. But, I love Kate so we'll see...
