The fact that Ellen and others are streaming but not selling downloads establishes it’s all about the profit margin, not the oceans.

I’m another who will buy downloads, but never streaming. I want to own my workouts, not be at the whim of the instructor or business partnerships.

Like many, I dislike the idea of paying for workouts that I cannot keep.
This. If an instructor doesn’t want to keep selling DVDs, that’s fine. But offer downloads or you lose my business. Streaming does not always work for me, and I don’t want to fork out a bunch of money each month and only get one or two instructors. Plus, I don’t always like all the workouts from that instructor.

It's not just about the cost of production and the declining demand, it's about copyrighted material. The fact is that some folks will upload their downloads onto a streaming site and/or forward the digital file to friends I have been slowly but surely converting some of my DVDs to digital files and storing them as private files in the cloud... Streaming helps instructors circumvent the problem of "inappropriate use of downloads". I don't like the streaming option because I find it pricey. Much as I love KCM, until she has a LOT of new content on her streaming site, I'd be hard pressed to sign up as I have a good selection of her DVDs (with premixes) that I have loved using and intend to continue using. I do sometimes have to drag around a DVD player to hook onto my laptop (not ideal) but that's the small price to pay for avoiding streaming.

I agree! I love Ellen, but she will will lose my business if she doesn't offer downloads. I also think downloads should be cheaper than DVDs, but they rarely are. IMO a lot of streaming subscriptions are overpriced. I've done a few trial subscriptions & I bought a year of Bellicon streaming when they offered me 50% off. I won't renew though, don't use it enough, I need variety. I do subscribe to Essentrics TV, but only when I travel. It's affordable and I appreciate that they still put out DVDs. I'd be fine with downloads too, hope they will offer them at some point.

Exactly!

Younger generation with smaller spaces: everything is digital. In my daughter's apartment, there are no DVDs (movies or workouts), no CDs, and no (or very few) physical books, magazines and newspapers. I do admire that clean, green philosophy and I've pared down a lot. But, I still want some books, CDs and DVDs!!

I could get on board with downloads but I find streaming wasteful and expensive. Truthfully I'm quite happy to be using my vintage workouts and have bought backups for a number of them.

I agree. This is the way of the future, whether we like it or not.

I think "greed" is the wrong word behind the trend towards doing away with DVDs. I really doubt any of them, with the exception of Jillian and other higher profile instructors, are really getting rich off of DVD sales. Decreasing costs by doing away with physical DVDs may be the only way they can keep filming workouts and making it worthwhile financially.

Yea, at least Gilad's company was honest when they explained why they were going the digital route.

Lucky Star, I don't know what I'd do without my books! I still use CDs too, but always upload my CD to iTunes and keep the CD as backup. Baby steps to progress.
