My pet peeve is when they make you feel like you are working out less because you choose to follow the low impact modifier. For example, "If you want to take it easy follow X" or "For those not quite up to the full workout you can follow X". Even when the workout is supposed to be low impact there's someone doing high impact anyway, and the instructor says "If you want to REALLY work out you can follow X who is working REALLY hard". It just bugs me.

On the flip side, I love how Jessica Smith (in her dvds) usually says something like, "and if you want to just keep walking or stay at this pace, we'll catch up to you". |

I did static stretches at the beginning of Firm workouts for years and nothing happened so I still do them as presented. Too lazy to change things, even if maybe I should.
I don't like it when they don't work the sides evenly. It's as if they don't know how to count. However I often do add a few extra reps on my weaker side, but that's a conscious choice on my part and I don't always do it. A good workout ruined by the instructor talking or squealing constantly. Forced cheer on the part of an instructor. I'm not too conscious of music, probably because I don't have a good sound system. However I do notice if an instructor is wildly off beat on cardio workouts.

1. Often I'll do videos starting on the "other" side, just to try to even it out ... 2. Annoys the heck out of me. Did the instructor not rehearse their script?? Lol!

Some of those verbal tics are such a part of their personalities, I'm not even sure they're aware of them until after workout has been completed.

As requested, I won’t mention any names, but there is one instructor, whom I love dearly, that has a habit of starting to speak and then stopping in mid sentence, sometimes in the middle of a single word. Almost like she’s suddenly decided maybe she shouldn’t say anything. It doesn’t really bother me but I have a lot of her workouts so it’s something I’ve noticed.

I remembered some other things that kinda ruffle my feathers:
-- Telling me we're working on body parts but use derogatory names (like batwings and saddlebags) -- Using photos/artwork on the DVD cover that either isn't the actual trainer OR has the trainer significantly different from what they actually look like. -- Telling me there are modifiers but then never pan to the modifier when the moves change.
