I thought the word was created on VF! Here's some history of the word "vidiot", that I found, dating use in the English world to 1949!

The OED needs to update and add a second usage. Though I do often spend more time in a day previewing DVDs than doing them, on whole I don't think I qualify as a couch potato viewer. Or undiscriminating, despite the size of my collection.

From the Time article: 'The Oxford English Dictionary dates the word vidiot back to 1949 and defines one as “a habitual, undiscriminating viewer of television or player of video games,” a cousin to the lifeless couch potato.'

And why doesn't our spell checker recognize vidiot? Oh, it's my spell checker. Just added it.
