Winter Solstice 2022 - New Year 2023 Sadhana Check in

A warm welcome to all!

Winter Solstice 2022 is Wednesday, December 21 at 4:48 p.m. EST.
Some of us will start on Solstice, others on Jan 1. There is no pressure or obligation to check in every day and, as always, no obligation to include personals. There are no rules here!

Sadhana is a daily spiritual and/or physical practice often with a specific focus or goal in mind, but goals are always optional. Its often associated with yoga, but can include Qi Gong, meditation, breath work, daily readings, or a combination of any or all. It is often 40 days, but can be open ended or any length you chose. This check in is an opportunity to share our favorite mindful practices and learn from each other.

Please feel welcome to roll out your mat & join in!

Thought Id start the thread for those who wish to start tomorrow.

I plan to start tomorrow. My focus is to include more active yoga, some guided audio meditations, & meditation readings from Louise Hays Meditations to Heal Your Life.

I've been doing yoga six days a week for years (I take Sundays off to focus on other personal fulfillment activities) and added daily meditation this past year. I just purchased a membership to Alo Moves last month and am enjoying the variety of yoga as well as meditation classes on there.

In addition to deepening my meditation practice (some days I really struggle to focus), I want to set an intention before my practice every morning. Does anyone currently do that? If so, what are some examples of intentions you set and how do you decide what the intention will be on any given day?

My "1 hour yoga class" is a class I take by a yoga instructor. It's not at a studio but at a local plant shop. One of my daughter's friends opened a plant shop in our town and this instructor walked into the shop in May and offered to teach classes early morning and evenings. I try to go at least 3x per week. This has been a blessing for me as 1) I love the instructor, she's amazing and 2) it is in plant shop with all these beautiful plants and nature and she fills it with fairy lights and it's just so serene and peaceful and 3) it's done wonders for my yoga as well as my stress and anxiety. My goal is to do mostly yoga practice but adding some meditation in as well.

Dena, I don't do that, but it sounds like a nice idea. I saw that there is various info on the web about how to use daily intentions. When I set an intention for practice (e.g., if a teacher suggests doing so at the start of a yoga class), I usually try to keep it to a few words, like "peace" or "kindness to others."

I feel like Kassandra starts some of her practices with intention setting, but I don't remember for sure.

I'm not sure if I will participate in the check-in, but I wanted to share some resources from Wanderlust (videos and an article) and figured this might be the best place.

Wanderlust TV Winter Solstice Collection

Winter Solstice: Honoring the Return of Light by Mara Branscombe

I don't know much about Sadhana, but I'm interested in learning more. I try to maintain a daily yoga practice (following Yoga with Adriene's monthly calendar), which I will continue through the holidays and new year. I'd like to add in more yin yoga and meditation.

I would like to get back to a regular yoga practice. I started off well and then fell off the wagon. I would also like to add in meditation. I use Peloton a lot so may continue with that but I know Yoga with Adrienne has something coming up that I may try to do.
