Long rest period?
It CAN be heavy lifting depending on how much you want to lift. I just personally like to lift as heavy as I can. Rep speed dictates that.

The exercises are done for time with BJ saying to try to get at least 10 reps. If I remember right, some workouts you go 20 secs on, 10 secs off. Some were 2 minutes, some were 30/20 etc. Some were done very slow rep count, others faster rep count.
So yes I'd say metabolic for sure.

VERY little rest. There is a MetaSet (active rest) after each group of exercises then a 30 second 'real' rest. It goes fast. You can opt to rest during the MetaSet. Some of the exercises keep HR up, others are mellower.

With 3 backgrounders, you can absolutely find the level you want to work at.
Hope that helps!

FYI: Same Upper Body warmup for all Upper Body workouts (separate chapter).
The Finishers at the end (also separate chapter) are always brutal and involves using Blood Flow Restriction bands to pump up the "pump". LOL It is wickedly hard but really pushes your muscles. I've never used anything like that before.
The Fat Grips I mentioned too also increase the muscle burn/intensity. WILL make your grip stronger and forearms too.

Doesn't Extreme use the bands quite a bit, rather than dumbbells? That's putting me off because I'm not a fan.

Nope. Well yes and no. You do use the bands for some of the work, but plenty of dumbbell work for sure! The band is used in the warmups, but take my word for it, if you use the heaviest bands, you will feel it.

I've never been a huge band fan either, but these workouts showed me how tough they can be.

I just love this set. The Disc 2 Leg workouts kills me each time. In my book this is one of the best leg/butt workouts ever.

Hi Everyone,

I am just bumping in hope of more reviews on metashred extreme. Has anyone broken any plateau after completing the program. The plateau I am referring to is muscle building and/or strength improvement.

I love MetaShred and I'm currently doing it. I haven't lost weight but so far, 3 inches off my waist and 4 inches of my hips. I sub the third leg workout because it bores me so that day I do heavy heavy hip thrust (heavy for me is over 200 lbs), dead lifts and squats and accessory butt work. I like BJ but he is ridiculous in this set. What I do is pick the "music off" option and blast my own music play list and I'm blissfully unaware of his sophomoric humor. I'll pause the music when he explains the next exercise and then tune him out again. I've loved changing up my routine and really like the exercises he's chosen. He's big on the hip thrust, one leg and both leg versions, and the Bulgarian split squat. After doing Strong Curves for over a year this is a nice change while still sticking to Bret's favored exercises.

Good Gosh, 200# hip thrust??? You are one strong mama! Congrats on your loss! Your music situation is very similar to my music situation in H&C...Autumn is enough to drive me a little insane. But your Strong Curves talk has me curious. Is that a dvd set or a paper workout and is the instructor Bret? I found some worksheets for it online and now am curious. Thanks! Great to see you posting again!

Hi! I haven't been coming to VF since I've been doing Strong Curves and it's a book. The author is Bret Contreras. You can follow him on FB and IG and he gives lots of tips and demos exercises. If you still have my email, send me a message. HUGS!

Thanks Darisa for your review. Congratulations lifting those 200lbs.
You're a strong woman. Those inches loss are great result from this strength training. It goes to show HEAVY load can trim!! It does not necessarily Bulk. Has anyone claimed we have to embrace Barre to trim off inches? Pfff lol

I actually love Barre and owe a bunch of it and am a yearly SBF subscriber. There's room at the table for everything we enjoy! LOL
