I've lived in the DC area since 1990 and DC itself since 1995. This winter has been bad (although the one several years back where we got slammed with 3 snowstorms within a week sticks in my mind).

I shoveled about an hour ago and if I have the energy I'll take another swipe before going to bed. We live on a corner lot, which makes it a lot more work, but we have one of those ergonomic shovels and it really does make shoveling much much easier. This snow is what I call 'heart attack snow'--wet and heavy. The snowfall we got last weekend was powder--I could just sweep it away. This snow is too heavy for that.

Oh well, it's exercise, at any rate!

Rockville, MD here. I am trying to alternate between shoveling and inside activity. We just finished clearing the first 4-5? inches. At some point this evening, I deserve a major stretch! It's still coming down hard and is supposed to worsen overnight, so tomorrow will be more of the same, I'm sure.

Harford County here. I called it a "rest day" and have alternated between being online, napping, and reading on my Kindle. Actually still in my pajamas!

I've been doing so well with the CLX rotation, but I can't do my planned cardio CLX tomorrow since I work out in the garage and would first have to shovel my way over there and then find & shovel some other spot for the car first. I plan on being cold and wet and cranky at that point.

Trudging through the snow with the dog will have to be enough. For an elderly dog, she's very playful in the snow!

Hi - I'm in Frederick County, MD and we have about 17 inches or so already. My dog (who is around 8) is pretty playful in the snow, but she is 19 inches tall so she is having trouble getting out to "do her business" - DH shoveled her a path but I'm sure will have to do it again.

Today is going to be shoveling max and tomorrow will be too for workouts. I got up early this morning and stretch with Classical Stretch. I figure for the next couple of days CS, Pilates and athletic stretching will be my "workouts" - I have a tricky back so doing the shoveling is going to just about wipe me out.

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing, on some level it is kind of fun - sort of like being a kid and getting a day off from school (I'm sure kids won't be in school for this ENTIRE week!) but the "adult" part of me is pretty miserable, mostly about the shoveling and the pain that is going to accompany it!

Take care everyone,

Donna

I'm going to go shovel my dog a path right now, Donna. Our 5 AM "walk" was a complete bust. The dog stepped out in a drift higher than her and immediately demanded back in. Can't blame her! There usually has been plowing by this time of day, but not this storm. I have the same mixed feelings you do about it all.

This is the MOTHER of the mother of all storms!

In 2003, I posted a photo of my then-1-year-old standing at our back door, gazing at a little over a foot of snow.

My daughter has grown since then - and so has the snow! Here is that same scene now:

Shovel Max at 6 AM. It was a boatload of work, because we live on a corner lot. I don't know what the overnight accumulation was, but it looked like at least 8 inches, and was probably much more.

Went out again at about 9 AM. Much, much easier, and this time I had the energy to shovel our next-door neighbors' front walk--they are elderly.

I can see that I will be doing this 'workout' every couple of hours until the snow stops--I hope the forecast is correct that the snow will stop this afternoon.

Awfully pretty, though.

I live in DC. Still snowing like crazy at 10AM. There's at least 2 feet of snow on the ground right now and it's supposed to keep snowing for the rest of the day....
