i found this 2004 thread that mentions using a "shop anywhere" feature. but perhaps paypal changed?

is there any way to buy things on half.com using a paypal cash balance?

Jeannine, have you ever heard of Paypal's virtual debit card? It's like a credit card (Mastercard) except it takes the payment from your Paypal account. It's for one time use and it's very safe; I've never had a problem with it. I've used it on Amazon, Half and any site that doesn't take Paypal. Definitely worth checking out.

bob - yes - it worked! thanks.

i just want to mention something. i downloaded the option to generate a virtual card on 1 day and wrote down the card number, with plans to use it the next day.

a few days later, i decided that i wanted to use the privilege at Amazon, and when i went thru the Amazon check-out, i inputted the info that i saved from the other day off of paypal. however, paypal has a "drop down" screen that is almost undetectable (well, i didn't see it at first) and issues you a new virtual card number. you log into paypal on this drop down window (with amazon check-out still running). paypal logs the receipt for payment also.

beth - paypal has a search function - i believe that's how i got it. i think you type in

virtual credit card

or something like that.

Beth, go here to learn about it. Download the Paypal plug in, which then appears on your browser. When you get to the order page on a website, click the Paypal logo "P" in the browser and generate a single use debit card. The info for that card will then appear in the fields. It's a one time use so that number can never be used again. It's very safe and convenient.

I'm still having trouble doing this; I did download the plugin, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. Do you have to have your PayPal account connected to a bank account in order for this to work? Mine isn't, so I'm wondering if that is the problem. Also, I keep getting asked for my SSN for verification.
