Yoga Book Recommendation

Does anyone have a favorite yoga book recommendation? I really want to deepen my yoga practice. Thanks so much!

I love Slim, Calm, Sexy Yoga by Tara Styles. It has color photos and instructions of a ton of poses and variations, and practice suggestions for a ton of conditions (insomnia, headache, PMS, depression, etc.) as well as for weight loss and toning. She doesn't take herself too seriously but offers all kinds of information on yoga history, breathing techniques, meditation.

The next one I want to get is Yoga Anatomy, which I haven't seen in person, but looks like it has the muscle groups that each pose works highlighted.

I second the Tara Styles book. I haven't gotten too much into it but I like that it's not all mystical yoga speak. I just want "regular girl" yoga.

I can't say enough good things about Ray Long's Yoga Mat Companion series. There are four books that focus on a different area: vinyasa flow and standing poses; hip openers and forward bends; backbends and twists; and arm balances and inversions.

If you go to his website, www.bandhayoga.com, you can look inside all of his books to get a feel for them. Just scroll down where it says "click here to view our collection".

Edie, how exactly are you looking to deepen your practice--i.e., do you want to practice more advanced postures, get into yoga on a more spiritual level, or what? I think this would guide recommendations...

Thank you for your recommendations.

I'm not sure exactly how I want to go about deepening my practice - I guess that is why I was quite vague. I'm about to read Donna Fahri's - Yoga Mind Body and Spirit and Bringing Yoga to Life. I'm interested in the philosophy, breath work and postures, - not quite sure where to start my journey beyond yoga vids.

I guess I was looking for what other's favorites might be.

Thanks so much!

Light On Yoga by BKS Iyengar or something like that.

It was always recommended went I took yoga classes at a yoga studio.

My favorite (after all these years) is still Yoga: The Spirit and Practice of Moving into Stillness by Erich Schiffmann

Some of my favorites are:

The Heart of Yoga

Meditations from the Mat

The Yoga Tradition

The Mirror of Yoga

ETA: Also, here is a free online book from Krishnamacharya called Yoga Makaranda.
